Hoping folks can weigh in with some advice. I'm leaving the country soon and will be living in a smallish area without professional services (or affordable access to cross-border mail). I've never stabilized my own blanks before. I'd like to get a vacuum chamber, pump, etc., that's suitable for a hobbiest--say, a dozen or so handles a month--but still good enough quality to hold up and do the job.

Thoughts on particular brands/products that seem to give the best bang for the buck? Any advice is welcome ... except advice to ship the untreated blanks to a professional service. Won't be possible!

Yep, check out Cactus Juice for home stabilizing equip. They've got the hardware as well as the resin. From reading on his site you can learn enough about vacuum pumps, vacuum chamber, etc to order from other places.

Good advice on the background. I just googled cactus juice. Came up with the resin, but not a specific site. I'll keep looking. If anyone recommend particular products, don't hesitate to share your favorites. This will be a fun adventure. I'm trying to keep the cost at the hobby level, but sure do love them gadgets.

I have a couple of friends who stabilize regularly using hardware from Turn Tex and Cactus Juice for the stabilizing medium. It's had good results for knives, game calls, pen blanks, and artwork/sculpture.
