Okay, I posted last week about a water filter I contrived from a PUR 2-stage filter that I took up to the BWCAW with me and my family last week. Here's the results:

The filter clogged up after only 12 gallons of water (I'm counting the 4 gallons I ran through it while testing) so it wasn't worth the hassle. We ended up using tablets and boiling for the remainder of the trip.

bummer...

is there any way to rinse out the filter? i assume not becuase i guess you would have figured it out if there were...

Possibly pre-filter through a bandana or other cloth? Might extend the usefulness some, but clogging is the bane of all filters eventually.

The inside of that filter is only a mechanical filter and activated charcoal.

If you really want to , you can buy high quality activated charcoal from fish stores (get the better quality stuff used for marine fish) and you can make your own.
