Finally done. It's a 2x72 variable speed with a treadmill motor 1.75 HP. Runs great, tracking is very responsive. Work rest is, although fine for me, a bit overcomplicated, I am working on simpler version. I will maybe post some videos of grinder runing in a couple of days, as soon as I make the room for it in my insanely small shop :D. Still have to glue pyroceramic (if i spelled it correctly) plate, do something with the wires, and change idler wheels, now they are steel and not so good. Drive and tracking wheels are alluminum.

Thanks for waching

WOW !!! That looks SUPER to me and it goes horizontal !!!! Lots of makers and would be makers will be most interested in your build ! Congralulations on what looks to be a fine grinder ! Frank

Looks really knice ;) just beware of dust in the motor and overheating the motor, someone will chime but I recall reading somewhere here about issues with treadmill motors.

The steel work/fab looks great. :)

That looks great!

You might want to try and move that handle in down at a location you are pushing down instead of pulling down to change the belt. It will take a lot of stress out of your shoulder.

I'm impressed with this one

Excellent looking machine!
Get double sided carpet tape to put the Pyroglass on the platen. that's what I do, it makes it very easy to use both sides of the glass.

That is a beautiful design and you have great fabrication skills. I am curious about treadmill motors do they run at low rpms and that is why your drive wheel is so large in diameter? The way you designed it you could eventually put a TEFC 1.5 hp or 2 hp motor and drive on it for a little more power if you need it. It looks very cool with the yellow paint. Nice work. It makes my KMG look plain. , Larry

Very nice! The rotation is especially impressive.
Do you have any problems with balance when laying it down or putting it up?

Thank you all very much.

@ T.Erdelyi, I am aware of the dust problems with these motors, I made a filter from PVC tube, some wire mesh and kitchen aspirator filter.. I hope it will serve it's purpose. Here is the picture of the filter

@AVigil, That is a good suggestion, but no need for that right now.. length of the handle gives pretty good leverage.. and i don't want to cut anything :p
@Rhinoknives1, thanks for that i will look into it
@LARRYZ10, the sticker on the motor is saying 3800 RPM, dia. of the wheel is 115mm, if i calculated correctly, that's 75 FPS
@chknifemaker, It was very cheap, the only thing i actually paid for, are material and fabrication for the drive and tracking wheel and paint :D.. motor and controls for it I got in a trade, and all the rest of the material I got from one shop where I worked before
@lastbrunneng, balance is pretty good, it can be tilted with one hand

That's awesome! Puts my homebrew grinder to shame. Love the tilt feature, really something I wish I had on mine from time to time.
