Homemade "Bully" WSK Test and Pics

Yup.. Actually got 2 within 25 mile of me!!

I have a propane torch and an oven.. Do I need to temper it?

Mike, you need to harden amd temper. Propane may not get hot enough to do the hardening part. It's a small blade, so you don't have to worry much with the whole handle affair, you would have to really do something major to bend the handle.

Hardening is heating to cherry red, (non-magnetic) and quenching in oil.
Tempering for 5160, is oven at 400° for one hour.
Let cool, then again at 400° another hour.

Check with any mechanics you know, maybe through work, and see if they have a torch.

If propane won't do it just use mapp gas. It'll do it for sure on such a small blade.

Skunk, what kinda sheath are you thinking?

A good hard wood fire fed for a bit might get hot enough to harden, not to sure though. Feed it a lot til you get a good bed of coals. You could also make a blower to stick in by drilling some holes in a pipe and capping one end, then forcing air into it from an old hairdryer or something. I made one once but with an aluminum tube and it quickly melted the aluminum, putting an end to my little project.
Sorry for the derail, skunk, looks like a great cordwrap.

Heat up an old charcoal grill full of wood then use a blowdryer on low after you've got a mess of coals. Ruined a bunch of hair dryers this way but it worked for me until I created my own forge.

I'll use kydex, since that's what I do.

Would love to make an accessory fero-rod carrier too, while I'm at it.

I absoluteley Love this knife It just seems like a great size for an Wilderness EDC with a toughness to peform chores usually reserved for the biggies.

How is it by the way as a "Finess Knife" Can you slice a tomato after cutting that tin Can.

You know....I was actually gonig to come inside and slice a tomato with it!!

I did grab a sheet of paper and was able to slice it cleanly, so, I beleive it can handle the food chores as well as some bashing.

My personal opinion is that it should be no more than 3/16" thick, not 1/4".

Skunk, you did a great job. you should be proud. You'll get a good feeling every time you use it.

You are making me want to make a chopper Skunk. I've always done small knives. Maybe its time to do a big boy.
