There are some nice knives pictured in this thread. It is good to see pictures. This topic makes me think that maybe I should be trying to make my knives a bit better looking...even though crude knives have their own appeal.

Some of you may be interested in checking out the metalworking forum at Paleoplanet. There are some keen knifemakers there.

Couple of mine. These are the first I have made from scratch. 1/8" 1080, ground w/ angle grinder, files and sandpaper. Antler came from scrap bin @ garage sale. Maple was a couple bucks @ Home Despot. And no, those are not sawteeth on the top one, it was my first attempt at filework.

I doubt I have $100 worth of knifemaking tools. All were bargains. Here is my forge, built myself out of $28 worth of parts.

I am still learning. It just goes to show that you can get started real easy. Everyone is real friendly over at shoptalk Q&A on this forum. Have fun.

I like that stag handled knife. It reminds me of a Becker Campanion. Looks good with the rough blade finish.:thumbup:

I like the "No PIN" look Myal
I think I'm gonna do one like that with blank I bought recently

I usually work with the big all hard high speed steel power hacksaw blades , trying to drill thru that stuff is .. well it just doesnt happen .

I have worked around cars all my life tho and I had a spare tube of sikoflex urethane , the stuff used to glue windshields into cars laying around , so I glued the scales on with it .

that stuff holds tight and doesnt let go , but it WILL flex so if the blade is seriously being bent sideways , the scales will not pop off as the would with epoxy or any other "brittle" adheisive

windscreens do not fly out of cars in a smash , but the glass stays glues in even under hellish forces and stresses , that glue has got to be good enough for a knife handle in my book :)

it just became my standard thing to do , buy a tube of sikoflex , make a bunch of blades , and glue em up all at once

if you try it tho , use gloves and mask up or tape up your blade where you do not want the glue to go , it is contagious and if you dont get it before it sets up , it is very very hard to remove , it also takes about 24 hours to set up properly .
