I decided to try the Loctite E-120HP epoxy but did not want to spend the money for the applicator. A little scrounging in the shop for materials.
2"X3"X3/16" steel
2"X3"X3/4" oak
1/2"X4-3/4" dowel
5/8"X4-3/4" dowel
old 6" HF bar clamp.
misc screws
less than one hour of time.
Here's what I made. It works great.

It's great stuff. The only thing is that it dries to a whitish-tan color. Any little less-than-perfect mating shows up loud and clear.

I'll let yall know how the Locktite works. As to color, I always color epoxy with dry pigment.
