Several months back I mentioned that I'd decided to try my hand at making my own Omega spring after numerous emails and a few phone calls to Benchmade got me nowhere.
I said at one point that I'd post a picture, but as time seems to get away from me without warning, I never got around to it. Tonight I decided it was time for my 710 to take a bath and figured it was as good a time as any to take a picture of my guitar string Omega spring.
It's not pretty, it's really not. But it's every bit as strong and secure as the original spring that was in the knife. The guitar string has probably been in the knife close to six months now and shows no signs of needing to be replaced. The other original spring is still fine, but if it ever breaks, the knife's going back to Benchmade for some real springs.
The knife is squeaky clean now and still locks up like a vault.
EDIT: The string looks rusty, it isn't. The knife was really dirty.
