Here are a couple of photos or three of my homemade sheath for my Highland Special. The leather is 6-7oz which I've found is more than stiff and strong enough for this size knife. I want to make them better, so your comments and constructive criticisms are welcome!

ALSO, if anyone can tell me how to upload thumbnails (instead of full-size images) from Photobucket, I'd appreciate it. :D

Here are three of the sheath I made for my daighter's mini-Canadian. Again, 6-7oz vege-tanned leather. The tooling was made with the end of a metal paint can opener while the leather was still wet.

Wow, I really like those, Stretch! Massively nicer than the factory sheaths, and the tooling really suits the knives.

Got a spare that'll fit a Woodland? :)

Hey Dog of War, thanks for the compliments. I could be talked in to making one for a Woodland. You'd have to part with the knife and send it to me, so I can form-fit mold the sheath.

Here are some pics of the Bravo-1 sheat. 9oz leather. All my fits are pretty tight, but this one grabs on to the bolster so well I wouldn;t have a problem carrying it upside down.

Let me know what you want to do Dog.

Now here's a mini-Skinner (my almost everyday EDC) with a sheath stamped with a paint can opener end.

The other two are of a plain-style sheath for the RAT-3

Thanks for looking. :D

ALSO, I'm still trying to get advice on posting thumbnails. Somebody chime in if you would, please.

I also am a big fan of the tooling! :tu:
Sorry, I don't have any experience with Photobucket... But nice job on the leatherwork! Looks great!

Hey here's another of the mini-Skinner (sheathed).

Now, don;t anyone get the idea that I'm overly proud of these things. It's just that we have a new camera and I'm excited about posting anything!!!

Thanks Cougar!

Here're two more pics. That's all....I promise!!!!

Stretch, you have some amazing sheath skills there bro, nice looking sheaths and great taste in blades as well. I have taken a ball peen hammer to my wet leather but that pattern looks great. You can resize you pictures in Photo bucket to thumbnail size, but I do not think you can reverse once you resize. Here is one I wet moulded for a Frost 780 triflex, 7 oz leather, plain Jane sheath. The knife snaps in and out of the sheath, the loop is sewn to give me a bit of a foward cant when worn on the belt. What are you using to seal the leather? A snow seal treatment with heat gun does it for me. Thanks for sharing.

Hey IUKE12,
Thanks for the compliments. :D

I like that sheath! Very neat sewing job.

I'm using a Tandy leather sealer. I apply it with a sponge. It's a milky-clear substance that dries to the touch in a few minutes and seals the leather. I haven't tried any heat yet.

By the way, I remember your "ball-peen hammer" sheath if that was you that posted a pic or two of it several months back. When I was thinking of stamping, I tried and tried to remember what it was you used to tool that sheath of yours. Finally, I just used the opener-end of a paint can opener.

Nowadays, I'm using a rounded-point awl-type tool to trace the nearly invisible veins I'm seeing in some of this leather when it is moist. As I work along, they begin to disappear and I find myself just feehanding it. THose are the designs you see in the
veined" sheaths.

Thanks Stretch, hope to see more of your stuff and yes, that was my ball peen hammer sheath you recall seeing. I'm going to try your method on my next one:thumbup:

nice looking sheaths.....thanx for sharing the pix. Stretch....
hey what kind of wood handle do you have on your Rat3 ?

Hey jaislandboy,
That's mesquite wood for scales. I didn;t have any burl at the time so the grain is rather plain. Also, I didn;t really take the time to do a perfect job as I knew I had some mesquite burl ready for exploration (cutting) and I thought I'd save fine detailed work for that stuff. The mesquite stumps are still in the shop.... they've been cut into a little, looking for odd grain, but I have yet to cut out some nice pieces and get them started on drying.
