Homemade Tweener Micarta FAIL!

It's a learning experience. You find a way to fix them so they are useable and then not a total waste.

That'd be interesting to see.
Yeah I haven't worked it all out in my head yet but my dremel has an attachment that is king of like a cone/collar I was thinking that i could cut the hex shape in plywood and make something to hold the scale under it then kind of plunge cut/router out the hex shape. Still working it out in my head. Probably wont work but its an idea ;)................if any of that made sense

i probably would've used epoxy mixed with glass and filled the hole in as well, then wait, then drilll, less deep, and don't use so much torque dude ;)

If the broken micarta causes a problem in the future I'll take it appart and do what you suggested...Btw, did you edit the title?

a smidge. as you said, we don't want people thinking ethan/kabar. fail is strong word.

Note: This set of scales are made by ME and NOT Ka-Bar, I dont want people thinking that the factory scales are trash

sometimes people only read the title, and move on. later they remember "those things suck"

perhaps that should be my next sermon: crafting good titles :D save me work from fixing them ;)

Becker knives cause a few individuals to develop some massive torquing muscles and skills, it a side effect of the awesomness radiating off of the raw 1095CV.

i've been seeing a few people over torquing, esp lately.

get a proper torque wrench ;) in/lbs not foot/lbs :)

otherwise, please never attempt to fix things like cars or motorcycles where shearing a bolt is a PITA and sometimes $$$$.

As far as I can tell, the only wrenches we use are hand held allen wrenches.... (go ahead, I know I just said something dumb, but I don't know that many tools, just knives....)

Looks good, those scales still look pretty functional...I guess. You learn from mistakes, so I'm sure your next set will be an improvement.

Yeah, went and make a bunch feathersticks and battoned some stuff today and so far no problems with the scales...Appart from a little bur on the middle screw that sometimes catches on your hand.
