Homemade "Wave" with plastic ties is awesome!

Yeah it is a very slick idea.., and sort of odd that no one thouh of it long before. I suppose the "real wave" mechanism deserves the credit.., but I still don't like the position you end up in considering it would be used for emergency deployment...

Warning! don't use this on a Spyderco Karambit, the small hooked blade once opened up inside my pants, and slid without an effort thru my pantpockets ( wich where vertical instead of jeansstyle horizontal) ; It shreaded my pants and was VERY scary having such a sharp blade opening close to my private parts and femoral artery!

I had some tie wraps here so I tried this. I have heard of this before, and reading this post inspired me to try it. It works great on the BM806, but I find on a Native it takes a little more work (pratice). I'll be posting pictures and a VIDEO shortly. :)

Also I didn't super glue anything, didn't need to with the 806, but I can see how it would be a good thing to do to make sure the tie wrap stays where it should be.

Okay, here are two pictures. I'll need to find some black tie wraps. :)

Here's a rough video. These are my first few times actually trying this, so don't make fun of my grip on the knife, etc. :) If you hear a funny noise during the first take it's my 1 1/2 year old son. :)

You should be able to click the link below and your default video player should start up, or right click and choose SAVE TARGET AS.

1) This has been around for a while. Works well.
2) the "Wave" is a trademark of Emerson Knives. Credit where credit is due.
3) There are mods to production knives. None are an Emerson "Wave".

Fine points, but important.

if you use a much smaller black zip tie it doesn't look so bad. Especialy on the FRN handled spydies.

Yeah, that's why I love the AXIS lock, because I can close it about as fast as I can open it by pulling back on the lock bar and flicking it closed.

My brother and I run Newgrounds.com and we have webcams there so people can watch us work when we feel like turning them on, which isn't very often these days.

Yeah, I will give that a try. All I had was what you see, but I did mention in my post I wanted to get black zip ties. :) I'll have to experiment to see how small I can go with them.

I think all these points have already been well established in this thread.
