I'm making my own grinder, and perhaps being penny wise and pound foolish, I bought a 10" contact wheel from grizzley (comes without bearings). The bore of the wheel is 3/4 inch. My question is, can I use unmounted bearings say 3/4 OD by 1/2 inch ID for this wheel or would pillow block bearings with a live shaft be better/safer. You thoughts/input would be appreciated.

pillow block combo with a shaft. I converted my 10" (hah!) a couple years ago for use with my KMG. The whole toolbar with the pillow blocks and 10" is heavy but it works and tracks well. I'd think you'd get quite a bit of wobble from bearing inside the hub even with a good spacer set up.

Thanks Tracy, the idler and drive wheels came from your site. By the way, glad to see you're carrying the firesteels now, I'm going to include those with my hunter and bird & trout knives.
