Honey... could you come in here? Now?

Never sharpen your new knife while drinking whisky and watching Monday Night Football.
(unless you're ready for a "Monday Night Party" in the E.R.!)

"Tips" (1/8") WILL grow back. Mine did.

Careful not to bump the stump!!!

I laid it on my palm, said to him, "watch this, the knife won't cut cardboard"... *1 second later*... "Oh snap, this is gonna need stitches."

That's so funny, in an "I'm really bleeding" sort of way... :D

(no, I was laughing with you)

Thanks for the smile, brother-in-pain...

and all the sympathy on this thread.

The time I cut myself on new kitchen knives I remember being more angry at myself than anything. I was bleeding like a pig and it didn't hurt that much but I remember just being SOOOOO pissed off at myself I was swearing at myself and calling me all kinds of nasty names.

Being single, it would do me no good. Instead, I drove myself to the hospital with a knife impaled in my right foot.

Ha! I've done the same thing.

I was cleaning a knife (A Kasper folder IIRC) and dropped it... but I tried to catch it - cut off the tip of my thumb and it stuck right into the side of my foot.

I nicked a major vein in the foot. When I got to the hospital and took off my boot, it was full of blood. They had a heck of a time getting it to stop bleeding.

The tip of my thumb grew back though. You can't even tell anything happened to it.

When I was 15 or so, I tried throwing my double-edged knife into a tree. It hit the hilt first and bounced back. It then hit the side of my foot right under my ankle bone tip first. Arterial bleeding ensued. Did I mention that it was my first camping trip unaccompanied by adults? I had to ask the poor guy in the campsite next to us to take me to the ER.

meh most of the time i catch myself before any big damage is done, ive barely broken the skin before!

although my leatherman kick's blade is hair popping sharp, and im almost afraid oto give it much use, with these horror stories going on.

Don't worry about it too much, getting cut badly isn't half as bad as it sounds.

I have not done that one. But one of my favorite series of stories to tell about my younger years are the times that involved my mother saying: "why do you need the car?... and WHERE'S YOUR BROTHER??!

Oh man, last year at weapons qual...(army national guard) i was coaching a new soldier on shooting when someone needed a knife i whipped out my NEW
benchmade rukus it flipped in my goretex jacket and fell, opened up and stuck thru my NEW issue brown combat boot.yup I bled but it didn't go real deep sooo...I sucked it up and drove on qualified the troop then went to the bluejuice lounge looked at my boot and saw the blood had pretty much stopped
hobbled to my humvee and asked for a medic no stiches just good ribbing
from my troops

Pics of the 'Finger Bean'?

It would have looked cool, fresh. I should of thought of that. Was distracted, though. I looked fairly quick as I was taking it off the blade of the knife before we left (wife is yelling "forget the f'ing knife!") and when I came back from the hospital, it had shriveled to a raisin. Didn't look cool any more. I live near Sacramento - this time of year, 95 degrees is a cold day and the air is super dry.

It's true. As long as blood doesn't freak you out, it doesn't hurt that bad at all. Or only... kinda bad. I've hit my knee or elbow hard and it hurt way worse than a bad cut. Now, the injection into the wound before they stitched it... that really hurt.

Totally. I swung a hammer for many years. (still do occasionally)(construction savage) I've been cut in all kindsa ways. A little blood is just part of the deal. Sometimes you might need a little first aid, but usually you just keep on working.
Smaller slices or even bigger, bloody, stitchy ones don't hurt anywhere NEAR as bad as a hammer slam on a digit!:eek::eek::mad::eek::mad::barf::o (don't deny it, we've ALL{in the trades} done it) Better keep that thumb down!!!

I would have liked to see a video of it shriveling up. Fast-forward that and watch the whole process :D

Ok, maybe that's a little weird :o

You're telling me! The two injections into the open wound was the worst part of the whole ordeal. I swore like a sailor both times. If I would have known the injections were gonna hurt THAT bad, I would have told them to stitch me without novacaine! To add insult to injury, the novacaine had NO effect on the outer two stitchings anyway.:thumbdn:

seems to me the worst part is the stinkeye you get when you cut yourself{notice i said when not if}. Then of course you get to hear about how every time you touch a knife you cut yourself. but on the bright side chicks dig scars. at least i hope so.
