I just wanted to say that if anyone here has not had the opportunity to view the Woodsmaster tapes...you should. They are a great visual aid in the learning process. The tapes are a valuable tool that will increase your understanding of the things we are talking about in this forum. For more information go to Hoods Woods web site at http://www.survival.com

Hi Greg, I would love to see them but in Holland we have a different format in television signal, not the "NTSC" or something like that that you use in the USA.
So nice US made video tapes just don't work on my VCR + television.
I know that we have enough scouts in our scoutingclub who would really love to see this kind of tapes as we often go into "the woods" (not much left in Holland) to do go "suvive".
Cheers, Bagheera

Thanks Guys!

I just wanted to let all of you know that until Dec 25,1999, we have special holiday prices for our videos. Get $1 off per video. If you've been thinking about buying them, now's the chance if you want to save some money. If you buy all 10 you end up saving $10.

About foreign video machines: The foreign customers we sell our videos to have video machines that play BOTH NTSC and PAL formats. These type of video machines can play our tapes. These machines are becoming easier and more popular to buy in foreign countries.

Looked like rats to me, Normark. Look close to see the T.O.P.S. Wolf Pup driven into log. I've got one and that little doggie is all teeth. Karen doesn't worry with a cage cleaner like that around. Cave Cooking II is gonna be another winner. Jason

Just got my notice of "Cave Cooking II" last night... and ordered it last night!

I've got three dutch ovens..., should be an interesting tape.

Hey Eric, Jason and Kirk,

I showed you how to skin and clean marmot, trout and squirrel in Cave Cooking 1. Now in Cave Cooking 2 it's time to show you how to skin, clean and eat......barn rats! Yummmm. We even show which wine is best with this wonderfully delightful rodent. We think after you watch this video - you'll be so excited that you'll go and catch some rats, cook them up in your dutch oven and never go back to eating beef or chicken again

) Maybe....maybe not.

This is late in coming, but I want to add that I first found out about Ron from one of his and Karen's tapes. I was at a friend of a friend of a friend's house a couple years back, and they had it on when I got there. I was impressed with his knowledge and sense of humor -- and glued to it for a bit until my friends dragged me out for drinks, kicking and screaming because I couldn't finish watching it.

Top notch all the way!

Thanks, Ron and Karen, for your great work and generous giving of your time here!

Best,

Brian.

Hi Karen Hood,

I have most of the Hoods Woods tapes. They are great! Cooking barn rats...you all have cast iron stomachs! One thing, don't rats carry a ton of diseases??

K. Williams

Yes, Rats can and do carry diseases. They are also a good food source if you cook them and handle them properly.

I do not recommend eating "sewer rats". These are rats that live in sewers and live in other filthy environments. I also do not recommend eating "deer mice" which have been linked to the Hantavirus.

The rats we cook up in the video are "barn rats" caught up here in Idaho. They live a clean life and taste great!

One of the main reasons we showed this in the video was to teach our viewers that there are all sorts of food sources out there that most people wouldn't even think of eating. In a survival situation this could cost someone their life.

The other reason is (no joke) Rat tastes great! It just has to be cooked thoroughly.

Karen

Speaking of puke...for anyone who has the jungle video that Ron and Karen put out.

Watch really close (in background) when karen is eating that big juicy bug. There is someone behind her puking. My question to Ron and Karen is: "did anyone eat that partially digested food?" :>) For those of you who have the tape...if you haven't seen it, watch it again...it is worth seeing. Karen you are such a stud to eat that huge juicy bug :>)

Guess the GUIDE (boatsman) didn't have the stomach for what you guys were TEACHING. :>)

Greg, I never have rated the usefullness of folks on their gag factor. Maybe I misunderstood your post.

The 'boatsman,' assuming he was Peruvian and knows the jungle and waterways since he was the guide, may not have an excellent resistance to gagging but I would just about bet he could survive that jungle without any problems, and it would probably be just another day for him since he's lived there all his life.

Wouldn't you figure? - Jeff
