Hooked On Classics--Another Impulse Buy.

What a terrific, Classic hand-held beauty you've unearthed. Treasure mined from the net. Real wealth IMHO. It's silver color will contrast nicely with a brass 111 don't you think. Well done.

Dang, I know someone that has 2 of those in the box for sale. Too bad I spent too much on knives in the last 2 months, otherwise I'd get one of them. They are really nice looking knives.

Wow - $44 is pretty good on that one - I have bid on some of those but I always get outbid for what I am willing to pay.

Nice score!

I thought that was a good price.

:)

Also, I'm guessing this might be one of the earliest ones, since it seems to have a satin blade instead of the mirror polished blade. I'm thinking I remember hearing that there were some satins before the mirrors.

Yeah......I was feeling like I struck the mother lode.

I think I have one of the first ones made and if I remember correctly, you have one of the last ones made, right?

:)

Or.......was it determined that your blade had been replaced???

Don't know that I ever heard the final Joe Houser opinion on that.

I'm hoping this one gets here today.

Oregon, do you still have that Classic with the 1989 110 blade? And did Joe think that was a blade replacement or one that actually came original with a 110 blade?

(I realize you're busy taking hundreds of pictures of your new 124s, but.......just answer when you get a chance.)

:D

LOL. You got me. Guilty. Yup.

Not a replacement blade.

Per Joe H. (note that I'm quoting from a printed email from ITE who was quoting Joe from an email from Joe to ITE): "The 111 Classic came and went, then came back for a while. Finding one with a 110 blade is not all the uncommon since they are interchangeable.

It was most likely introduced in 1981, its in a catalog that I believe is from that year. It was discontinued in 1988. It was made after that time though although it never appeared in a Buck catalog after 88."

This fine specimen, pawn shop find, was used, carried but unsharpened post factory. The aluminum pivot area was warn, nervous flipper action perhaps, so Joe tightened the pivot pin at my request. It is cherry now. The engraving, Joe Turley, is well-done and I like the look and sound of the name.

Great. Yours must be one of the LAST ones made.

And......I just got the mail and it contained a Classic.

Blade is perfect and tight. Frame has edge scratches......looks like carried in pocket with coins, but not real bad.

The "engraved" part of the sides is in good shape. Name plate areas where name would go is mirror and scratched some, but no name.

So......Three-Dot, mirror name-plate and satin blade means it's one of the very early ones.

I lucked out on this gamble.

:)

Well done.

How did you get the sides shined up? Not with a paste type polish, I guess. It would tend to want to hang up in that maze of decorative swirls.

After some clean up, this should be one pretty knife.

Gently rubbing with a soft white towel, after soaking in high-test rubbing alcohol for a while, made a lot of headway toward brightness.

Some use white vinegar and a tooth brush.

Some use baking soda, water and a tooth brush.
