Hooked On Classics--Another Impulse Buy.

Thanks much!

Probably take me a while as I'm fairly busy for the rest of the weekend, but I'll be doing a little experimenting.

:)

Well, alcohol/toothbrush was the only thing I really needed to do. Couple drops of oil and a rub with a soft cotton cloth and here we are.

The little nicks and scars on the edges and the nameplate from pocket change are not for me to fix. I haven't the Dremel skills or the patience.

All in all, it's a great knife for the price and may have to take a trip to the Buck Spa. I'll check and see what they can do on these.

Excellent result. Thank you for the great pics & how to. I bet ITE is, this very moment, contemplating sending his brass 111 to you for a wash & shine!

I bet ITE is, at this very moment, fondling his brass 111 and laughing at all of us.

:D

I have one of those (the aluminum, that is). I remember reading that the monogram/engraving area was originally mirror polished when they first came out, then they went to a matt finish because the mirror scratched so easily. Mine is mirror, too, and mostly not scratched (a few light hairlines). The sheath is in very good condition, except for some corrosion on the snap. I would imagine that would make it more collectable, however I paid nearly twice as much as you for mine, a few years ago. That means you made a good find IMO.

I had bought it as a potential user but I never used it. When I read its history I decided to not use it.

I may sell it some day since it's packed away in my closet in a box somewhere.

Thanks, Wolfy......I notice that while the pictures look good, these 111s are even more impressive in person, especially when shined up a bit and even when they show a few nicks and scratches.

They do get your attention.

Mine looks like it's in the right place in a display case and that's probably where it will stay.

Although.......it would rival my folding Kalinga Pro as a knife to haul out to cut up a steak in a restaurant.

:)

Thanks for the thread never knew how nice the 111 is as I do not have it in me to take out of the Package good luck Like that knife

Ah, I think it's more like you are among the very few who have the discipline to hold yourself back from opening it up and playing with it!!!

:D

BG, I wonder how thick it is compared to the 110? Could you place them side to side for a photo? With the aluminum scales I am sure it is a lot lighter than a 110. You did a good job cleaning it up.

Ummmm...is it just me...or does that not look a lot like brass???

It does, but I don't think it's the Grail......I think it's just the preservative that they put in that protective plastic or cellophane.

Could be picking up some color from the sheath, too.

:)

Wow a lot thinner!

Very light, too.......this is a Sunday go to meeting dress-up knife, not a work knife.

Weak.......very weak, as compared to, for example, the Three-Dotter.

But a beauty, nonetheless.

:)

Just wanted to let everyone know it is not brass just reflection and oil buck coated knife with in the package.
