Hope All New Sheaths Are Not Built Like This…….

I just received the last 2014 Buck 110 Chairman that I needed for my 50th Anniversary collection.
I noticed the new style sheath in the box right away.

The sheath in the foreground is the one that came today. The back sheath came two weeks ago.

Older on left and newer on the right in the rest of these pictures.
I know some of the old right handed Buck sheaths had the belt loop sewn this way. I never liked those.
I hope this is just a fluke and they continue with what has worked for decades.

Very interesting,,, I do like that roughout leather look. Will the flat sewn belt loop make it ride closer to the body on a belt?
Interesting snap as well. First I have seen of that one.

Pack Rat…it will certainly make the sheath ride higher….looks like at least 1/2" higher.

That's the reason I like the vintage sheaths best from back in the 1970's and early 1980's. They rode lower than the sheaths made since then.

I'm with you Mark, I like the low rider version. This new high rider will change back, as your belt will wear out the stitching and they will get tired of replacing sheathes.

I just took a gander through a pile of sheaths. Have a couple of 110 curved bottom tan ones with that same flat belt loop. Never paid attention to them before.

The Custom Shop 110 that just came had the brown loop style with a Made In Mexico tag, a Chairman 110 had the brown flat loop with no indication of where it was made.

Thanks for the info.
I realize they can make decent leather sheaths but I will not accept or buy anything made in Mexico until they release the US Marine they have in prison. It's mind boggling that our own government has not done a thing to try and bring him home.

LOL, yes and I wont buy any US products anymore because they locked a Canadian up for selling marijhuana seeds lol

I kinda like the one on the right for the reason the sheath rides closer to my body. But then again I like ones that ride lower. Oh well...:p

Yes... My first post. Been lurking for quite a while though.

I'm not so sure one will ride lower than the other, at least not significantly. The version on the right has the stitching starting at the grommet and the apex of the loop on the other seems to be pretty close to the grommet as well.

I prefer the stitched version over the looped version. The biggest reason is that it fits tighter to the belt and will stay in place better than the looped version. I carry my 110 ahead of my holster on my right side at between 3:00 and 4:00. I find myself constantly pushing the looped holster back while the stitched holster seems to stay put.

That being said, my concern about the stitched version is fatigue on the stitching from opening and closing the sheath since the stitching is above the "container" portion of the sheath. Time will tell though. I carry my 560 in same position but in the nylon sheath as it's a better fit for the knife. I've gone through a couple of the nylon sheaths already but I ask a lot from them.

I would like to try the new type. The fold over loop allows the knife to stick out from my belt and get caught on items as I work or get in and out of equipment. My 110 sheaths wear out from work and get replaced every few years. Are the Black ones the new style?
Thanks for the update.

I glanced through the pile of black sheaths and none of the leather ones that I have are the flat stitch. The black nylon are flat and both vertical horizontal ability, which I carry horizontal during hunting season, mostly.

I was able to date one of my tan curved bottom flat stitch leather, back to between 2000 and 2004. So they have been around a while. I guess we just never keyed on them much.

Today I stopped at a outdoor emporum in Seattle and the 50th 110's that come in a box that they have in stock have the new flat strap. I came home and the Buck 50th 110's I bought earlier in the year have the fold over loop style. Wonder is this the new style?

I just received my Cabela's 50th Anniversary Buck 110 tins and the sheath in the one I checked has the flat sewn belt loop on a black leather sheath.
Personally, I will try to avoid buying any Buck 110's with that sheath.
