But I stand by my decision to have killed this animal. Its a Copperhead and I deemed it to be an immediate threat to my family and pets. I am not trained to handle venomous snakes so capturing the animal and relocating it away from my house and family could have proved dangerous for me.

I discovered this snake while moving an old wood pile next to a tree about fifty away from our house so that my father and I can build a tree house for my two younger brothers 7 and 9 years old respectively. I had a pretty strong feeling that I would run into a snake today, just didn't know where in the pile he would be. I made as much noise as possible while walking around the pile and when I began to pick up the old rotted logs to scare away any snakes.

Hey... you know what Ted Nugent would probably say...

"Fire up the GRILL!!!"

LOL, Hey, I can't blame ya when it comes to those type of snakes, I'd have whacked it too. ...Glad you found it first. ... So are ya gonna eat it? :D

Send it to Dwayne so he can make a custom inlay sheath for that mistress! She earned it!! :D

Know this means? Wife will want additional FMB's and on down according to family size! Better start visiting the BCS!!! No regrets!:D

That's a pretty nice size snake....... I'd hat to take a hit from that one.

I think under the circumstances you made the right decision

I can't really tell from those pics but that looks like an average to above average length Copperhead. For the most part they are not very aggressive but it was too close to the house and they aren't on the endangered list in SC and I doubt they are in WV. FBM made short work of him I bet. Sure would like to see a shot of it's dripping fangs!

I've had to kill 4 in my yard over the past 20 years...none were that big, thats a pretty good sized copperhead. And they are a little more aggressive than the rattlesnake family. I do like non-poisonous snakes though.

They are easy to skin in you want a sheath made...would be cool!

Got a friend that eats rattlesnake...taste kinda like greasy chicken, but what don't. He claims the rattlesnake has the best taste, don't like it myself.

Only tried rattlesnake once, fried. Tastes like greasy chicken describes it well. Definitely tastes better than alligator.

Never tasted copperhead, looking forward to the report :)

It probably comes down to how it's cooked, but I've had rattlesnake and alligator before and the gator's always been much better. Maybe my rattlesnake was just really bad. :D

WVHILLS, that's a justified kill that close to the house. Keep your eyes peeled for a while - they sometimes have mates that hang around looking for them.

That's a pretty good sized one for sure...

We've only killed 4 this year in our yard (about 20+ last year!) They can be aggressive -- it would sure hurt to have that sucker bite you or your little brothers... People get hospitalized here all the time from copperhead bites.

20 in a year:eek: And I thought I had alot of snakes around here

I'm offended man..........

that it wasn't me that bagged it. :D

Seriously, you have to keep your family safe. I would have done the same unless I knew of a better alternative. But now you can eat it and use its skin for a cool sheath for the FBM!

That's a good 'un...would have sucked bad to get bit that. I haven't seen and poisonous snakes in my hood for a while. I think the coyotes ate 'em up, along with several neighborhood cats.

Good decision! I'd much rather have my families safety ahead of a friggin' snakes life! Looks like your FBM is saving some lives!
