Hopefully my last iPhone question(s)!

Alrighty guys, I've pretty much decided that for the next year or so (at least), an iPhone will be a necessity. Apparently I've been outside my T-Mobile contract for like a year, so switching to AT&T won't be an issue. So some questions I was hoping you guys could help me with:

1) Have you guys had any service problems with AT&T? (Dropped calls, or bad signals in central Kentucky in case anyone lives in my area)

2) Is it worth the $100 for a 16GB phone versus the 8GB? I'll have probably 'normal' apps, plus a few drug information type programs. Probably not much music or movies or anything.

I think that's all I got for now, thanks for your help/thoughts!!!

1. Not really. The iPhone does have a habit of dropping its signal for no apparent reason but it will soon find the signal again and no calls have been dropped. This generally at my home which doesn't get a very strong signal to begin with. It's obviously not a problem as we don't have a home phone.

2. Not to me. I've only used about 2-3 gb.

re: the memory, it depends on what and how much you plan to store.

music tends not to take up much space.

if you plan on using it as an ipod, and storing movies or tv shows, the larger memory is worth it.

Gotcha, thanks much! I just got done doing everything online (which is awesome, because I hate dealing with the asshole salesmen) so we'll see when it arrives!

Go with the 16 its worth it just to have the ability to have more room. But it really depends what you are going to put on it.

I have had the 3g for almost a year and service is good in my area.

I have been a happy ATT customer for several years. As to the memory, I only put music and sometimes a TV show. So for me 8gb is more than enough, I used to own a 4gb so I became pretty good at rotating my music. Which did you ended up ordering?

Ended up with the 8GB, I think that'll be plenty for my needs. I don't have a massive music/movie collectionk, and that's not at all the main use for this thing anyway.

It's cool as hell as smoothly you can access certain drug info on these iphone programs. Mine is supposed to be in the mail, I expect it tomorrow.

Yup, my girl is a NP and she uses several medical programs on there. Epocrates and such.

ATT has a bit more fickle of a signal then CDMA based networks in hilly, mountainy, or sky scraper type places. It also has a lot more coverage than most other providers. In the end I like it better than Sprint(avoid at all costs) and Verizon(not bad.)

I have a 3G PDA and have been thrilled with the network. Everyone I know that has an I-phone loves it. The only down side can be its non native support of MS based systems. Not really an issue for 99% of users because of 3rd party apps and such.

Get the 16 gb. But arent they launching a new one this summer? Also they might have a deal when the Palm Pre rolls out to stay competetive.

My son, who has no job, got a 3g iphone so I bought his old Edge Iphone.

I love this thing. I have a bunch of useful apps that let me schedule my tasks and remind me for things I need to do as well as addresses and email and phone numbers. I have the 8Gig phone and still have lots of room left. A really useful tool and I won't kid you. I have some games that are pretty cool also.

i have had AT&T since '95 or so and have had excellent luck with them, dropped calls are very rare, customer service has been great, no complaints at all with them.

A new version of the software is coming out in June. There have been rumours about a 32G iPhone, but nothing has come of it. We will enventually see iPhones with more memory. The MacbookAir hit the streets with over 80 gigs of memory for the flash version, so they are definitely working hard on the whole solid state memory thing. I filledupi my 8g iPhone with music, but I refuse to use MP3, so all of my stuff on the phone is either full rez Redbook or Apple lossless, which takes up a lot of room.

Hey Spooky, not to resurrect an old thread but did you get your phone and if so, how do you like it so far? Don't know if you're kicking yourself because of this week's announcement of the price drops on the original 3G with the release of the new 3GS.

I've got the 16Gb which to me is too little since It's my replacement for my 160Gb Classic iPod which I only use in the car now, if at all.

Regarding issues with dropped calls, one thing I noticed is that it's a good idea to turn off the phone once a week or so, then turn it back on after a couple minutes. I think this allows it to refresh it's cache or something. I found I was dropping calls or calls were failing after about a week or more of the phone being on without rebooting it.

I just got my iPhone, but I've been an AT&T (previously Cingular before AT&T bought them out) subscriber for the last 7+ years. I've never had any particular problems with their service, or noticed a particular problem with dropped calls or coverage gaps in the eastern US.

In that case, probably not. Apps are tiny and you could fit hundereds of them on an 8GB phone. Music, videos and photos are what take up the space. I have the 16GB phone and for me it was worth it but that is becuase I have a lot of music and photos on it.

was there a specific reason why you are leaving Tmobile? The reason I am asking is because Tmobile is my current cell-phone provider where I am currently using a unlocked Iphone 8gig.

I have a few apps like video recorder & sound recorder (for free) that are pretty good.

No idea about central KY, but where I live AT&T's GSM network has been improving in strides over the past 2 years. Right now, I can't complain.

Considering that the iPhone GS is out, I wouldn't buy a 1st gen 3G iPhone if I were you. The GS is available as 16GB and 32GB, so that pretty much answers your question.
