Hi! Seams like I painted myself into a corner here.:barf: I surface ground the one on the right horizontally and ground the bevels, but in the process scratched the flats!! how can I clean this up and keep the line between flats and bevel crisp? is there a trick? thanks
I believe Nick Wheeler does a sort of diagonal sanding (as opposed to vert and horizontal) to keep the bevel line crisp. Hopefully someone can confirm or deny that...
Hand-sanding will always blend grind lines together to some degree or another. Human wrists and elbows and shoulders simply don't move in straight planes... that's why they invented surface grinders.
If you're not confident in your abilities to work against a flat platen, lap the flats on a true surface like a granite plate or piece of tempered glass mounted to a sturdy, flat board.
Or, get your stock reasonably close to straight/true, grind the bevels first and surface-grind the flats afterwards.
thanks dudes, I think I'm going to try your lap idea. I am too scared to try and put it flat against the platen after grinding!! I just know it will end badly lol
