Who carries Horizontal?

I decided that I wanted to make a horizontal sheath for my BRKT Gunny. I dont usually carry knives like this. I dont like the handle sticking out like so many horizontal sheaths do. Plus for me it would have to be a smaller knife. I dont like all that weight pullin at my pants. The Gunny is a lightweight smaller knife that has proven itself to me through a ton of use. I thought with its size and weight, it would carry quite nice. With my handle issues, I also knew a deep pouch style was gonna be the ticket. I basicly copied a few designs I saw and liked. I dont normally do pancake style sheaths either, but I wanted to keep it as slim as possible. Ive had this sheath for a couple weeks now. Ive wore it to walk my dogs about every night. It is a very comfy sheath, and I dont notice the weight at all. Im excited to carry it more and see how I like it in the woods. I know I like the knife, so....

I also used hardware to make the straps removable. I can replace em if needed, and also mount it to my water bottle setup or a packstrap.

Heres some pics.

I dont know if I will get used to horizontal carry, but I definatly like it for this size knife.

Heres a pic of it mounted to my 10x4 kit. (sorry for the crappy pic)

So who else is a fan of this style of carry for the woods? Lets see ya rigs!!

I like horizontal carry in the small of my back because it's out of the way until you need it, and you just reach behind and get the knife out. Only problem is when I'm carrying a large pack it gets in the way. Only time I can is if I'm wearing a small camel bak.

Jake, that's my prefered way to carry now. It's can be a little bulky in the front, but I've gotten use to it and it fits my activities. Even with small packs without bulky hip belts, I can carry with the pack's belt just above the knife. Access is much easier when seated in my kayak. It's also easier to carry a knife in that location when I'm carrying my CCW on my strong (right) side. I probably have close to a dozen knives with horizonal sheaths...

Yours looks very clean and functional. I've got a horizonal sheath the larger Bravo-1 and it works just fine.

I did it a lot with 3-3.5" fixed blades when I carried them regularly, but not in the woods. They interfered with the hipbelts on my packs. Tried wearing one on the hipbelt a few times, but then it just got in the way of the buckle, and adjusting the belt. Horizontal carry was great for EDC, especially with jeans and an untucked shirt. Unobtrusive, fast, and easy to access with either hand using knives with short blades and kydex sheaths. I haven't used a horizontal sheath that was leather, but those all look nice!

I like that setup. When I had a Bravo-1, I often carried it horizontally in its kydex sheath on the front of my right hip with the handle coming back to my belt buckle (lefty). It's great when carrying a firearm strong side, holstered or on a sling.

The Sharpshooter Sabot for the B-1 is a nice design. I wish there were more sheaths like that available. I'm all for versatility.

Same; I really only do it with my Clipper in custom kydex, anything much bigger is too heavy and pulls at my belt too much.

Here’s my setup, nice and tucked to the small of my back when not in use

I allow the sheath to slide on my belt so that after drawing and use it easier to get the knife back into the sheath (also make accessing the pouch and firesteel easier too).

I carry this way also...Bryan Breeden made my sheath horiz. or vert. carry for my Breeden HLK (Handy Little Knife) 4" blade. I usually wear it when I'm in public places like fishing around the Dam or lake or when hiking on public land...places where the "Sheeple" might freak out over a belt knife hanging on a persons hip. It's also a very comfortable way to wear the knife.

i got at least 3 fixed blades that i'd love to have horizontal sheaths made for...i'm looking for someone who can do it locally; i really don't want to ship my tools off and have to wait 3+ weeks for it to return...

I have a Bark River STS-3 that I love with an awesome horizontal sheath by Volclae. Unfortunately I've hardly ever been able to use it as intended. My hip belt on my pack doesn't allow it. I'd also pay extra for snaps next time so I don't have to remove my belt to get it on and off!

Nice job on that Jake. This is my version of a vertical/horizontal sheath. On the other side there is a belt loop for vertical carry.

Damn Jake. That looks awesome! You going to start a side biz? I will be a customer!

I like horizontal carry in front. In the small of my back I have trouble resheathing the knife. I also like the straps longer to allow for a bit of movement on the belt if needed and snaps to make on and off easier.

There is a guy on here who'll make a sheath with just a photo and dimensions. Sorry, I can't remember his name... Why not adapt one of the sheaths you already have?

I use Martinni horizontal sheaths for slipjoints and folders
They are very well made, sturdy and comfortable to wear
The small leather takes up to 3 3/4" easliy and a 4" when softer, and the Medium leather takes a 4 1/4" easily

The small Nylon takes 4 1/4" easily
The nylon back open on to the belt with velcro and so will also go on a shoulder strap nicely

You have a link to the Martinni sheaths?

i like those leather square styles pictured here; and unless the maker has (done) the knife already it's best to send it to get a perfect fit...and i could adapt the existing sheaths (both are kydex) but i want one that works 100% horizontally...

I prefer horizontal carry too. Keeps the knife out of the way and close to the body. I carry in front so there is no feeling around and guess work trying to resheath behind the back. There is a rare situation where it may be inconvenient and that is easily fixed with a baldric-rig.

That's professional work J. Great simple, functional, straight forward design.

Horizontal carry - my favorite way to carry a blade.
