horizontal grinders what for?

ok yall- i know this stuff is basic to most but not to all ,so please continue helping explain things for all the people who dont know- including me.
---whats the advantage of have a horizontal grinder. wouldnt it be more difficult to grind a blade on one of them. what do you use yours for??-thanks-marekz
 
I don't have one. But I bet they would be awesome for profiling.I have seen them with a small wheel for tight curves.
 
Profile finishing, while keeping everything square. Great for folders.
I want one but manage to get by fine without.
 
Like has been said, profiling and inside curves.I built mine and it gets used on every knife.Dave

well i dont need one of those. i dont make folders and i have a small wheel attachment on my grinder. thanks-marekz
 
Jim,I am using a 1" x 42". When I built this, that was all I had, but I am still happy due to the small amount of space it takes up.
Marekz, I think you find that having one will save alot of time on setups.Dave
 
Did you have or make up some kind of blueprints for this grinder Dave. I also like the apparent size. If so I would like to purchase a set from you.
