I will be taking orders next month on 8" diameter x 12" to 18" long horizontal tube forges with forced air burner. Price depend on length (12" is $325).

I have one of these forges, and it is a beauty! It has cost me a few sets of beard whiskers, but is built and functions like a tank!

IG,

How do your forges hold up to welding? I'm thinking of a gas forge, but it would likely be mosly for damascus work. I'd been considering building one of Don Fogg's designs, but for this price, I gotta know... :)

thanks,

-d

This is what I do all my welding in, but it is 14" long and the forge floor hass hard fire bricks. The flux builds up on the brick and doesn't eat throught it.

So I'd need to find some hard brick for the floor then? Also, what's the price difference for a 14"?

Thanks,

14" $375 and the hard bricks come with it. I use the half bricks for the floor. If you got to my forge building tutorial you can see how I build them.
I also will sell hard fire bricks if someone needs them.

Does the forge come complete w/ blower/burner/firebrick? Does it run on propane? Please excuse the newbie questions, I'm wanting to get into forging and your forge looks like a great way to do so.

I will be put up a list of what comes with it next week. :D

Thanks Indian George,

I will be looking forward to seeing your parts list.

I hope to be able to do business w/ you.

Larry

I've got two forges of George's design. We actually built the first one (my damascus welding forge) at his shop a few years back. I still weld my damascus in it and I'm not about to switch forges. It's a great piece of work, just the way I like my tools straightforward and hard working. I have a second one in 10" diameter that I do everything from blades to decorative metal work in. You can see mine on our web site shop tour as well.

Your going to like these forges.

Hey that's a pretty good endorsement J.

BTW, I bought a knife from you probably a year ago, it was the long bowie w/ the yin/yang carving by your wife. The knife came out as I wanted.

Well, the blade's getting some scratches here and there from use, I reach for that thing every time I want to do some serious cutting. I've had to redo the edge once (cardboard really dulls 'em up) and have proceeded to put it through more work, and very nearly my finger.

Your work is outstanding, and if you like this forge then that's good enough for me to stop looking and start saving.

I defiantly remember that knife, that was a pretty slick bowie. I'm glad it's serving you well.

Yep, I use my forges constantly and they've never given me a bit of trouble. I love 'em.

I'm interested in one of your forges, too, IG. I'll watch this thread and the Knifemaking Supplies & Tools section for info on when to order. Thanks :)

My forge building is going to be delayed, until I pickup more forge bodies. I ended up selling and giving the ones I had away.
