horn handle maintenance

I am about to receive my first water buffalo horn handled kukri.
what is the easiest & most common way to care for a water buffalo horn as i have no XP with horn or bone handles?
 
Fill a large mayo type jar with mineral oil from your local pharmacy chain . Buy the cheap stuff. Fill the jar and periodically soak the khuk over night handle down in it. I took a WWII khuk, with obviously no handle treatment since it was made, and this treatment returned the handle from a nasty, dry, flakey mess to a healthy, shimmering beauty. Easy as that! It'll also keep it right as it swells back up.
