Horn Handles and Cold Don't Mix?

Douglas: I really like your signature quote. Can you tell me where it comes from?

I have not had any problems with the handles cracking on my HI khukuris, they are wooden though. As far as temperature goes the lowest they have been used in was only about -25. The reference of the epoxy becoming brittle at -45 is interesting. What are the working temperatures ranges on most store bought epoxies?

Thanks for input, Cliff. More interesting info.

I'm wondering and this may be just the musing of a crazy old man but the water buffalo horn we use is taken from an animal that lives in a tropical environment. The elk and deer horn that is used here for rehandling (and it holds up well in the cold) is taken from animals that live in sub zero conditions in the winter. Could the horn be different due to the environment of the animals?
