Horn scales?

Got an older knife with black colored buffalo horn scales. Is there any special treatment need to be used to preserve them. Thanks for all info!
 
Yes, wax is good for many natural materials. Renaissance Wax really is worth the money. It's made for museum pieces, not cars.

I wouldn't trust anything else for any kind of ivory, so it's the only wax I use period.
 
Rennaisance Wax is meant for things that won't be handled.
Paste wax and shoe polish are made to protect things under heavy use.
I use neutral shoe polish in my cutlery restoration business.
