I made a sgian dubh blade out of an extremely low layer count random damascus that I made a while back and I've been trying to figure out what to make the handle and sheath out of...

I have some horn scales that I have been thinking of using, carved out and then glued together for both the handle and the sheath.

any reason this is a really bad idea?

Only the final product will tell? ——/People have made them that way For very long time!

Here’s the little monster in question...
Cause everyone likes pics!

Well maybe not... it says the file is too big for the server. Here’s a link!

(Sigh). Dang it Stacy! Now you went and made me feel all jealous!!
I’m afraid my work won’t be up to that level, but I’ll give it a go!!
Good looking knife!!

Is the silver raised or engraved? Neither? I plan to use silver fittings too, but I don’t think I’ll try my luck with working it at all... too much to go wrong there!!

So bout 78 or 79 I was in Newtonmore for the Newtonmore Highland Games, the Macpherson Clan gathering. Happened by coinkindink to be parked very near where Cluny Macpherson (chief of all Macphersons) with his two eagle feathers was parked and dolling out from the back of the Range Rover, wee drams to all the "Gentlemen of the Name" with their one eagle feathers. Kinda cool to see. Wasn't close enough to see what bottle the wee drams were coming from. That'd be interesting too. Specially as prior to typing this had a wee dram of a special Glenlivet and then quit playing with the kids and stepped up to a Laphroaoig.

Awesome! I was at Newtonmore in August of 2011! Saw the games, met my Scottish “cousins”, had a taste of some 75yr old scotch... all great fun! I plan to go back this year actually!

The MacPherson clan does have a scotch that is available in the states called “Cluny”. It’s pretty harsh, but not too surprisingly, it gets better with every glass!!

I really like that pattern, simple but beautiful.

Thanks! I was going to use the billet to make a higher layer count but I had a bunch of delaminating problems.
So it became a 7 layer Damascus. And a very small knife!! Lol!
