Horn vs Wood

A lot of options exist for conditioning leather, neatsfoot oil, mink oil, and believe to or not, OLIVE oil! Although this last will darken leather a bit, it makes it surprisingly soft.

I don't know if they use different formulations now, but the newer batches of mink oil I've tried refused to sink into the leather, and just made a white film on the surface. Olive oil probably works, but can go rancid.

Mink oil sometimes comes as a waxy paste, and sometimes as a liquid. I used the liquid. I haven't had any problems with Olive oil rotting.

I've used both kinds of mink oil, maybe I just got a bad batch?

Doesn't matter, it's not like there's One Way that works.

Thanks for the advice guys!

For leather I use the following method with excellent results:

I wash it using Vinilex PH cleaner and then use Vinilex Leather conditioner.
After letting the leather dry a few days I apply Kiwi Wetpruff.
24 hours latter the leather looks like new and is resistant rain and stains.
