just bought a HC on the for sale forum... Pretty cool knife... BUT the edge is terrible. It looks to have been sharpened with the highest grit on earth or like it was sharpened on a sidewalk or something?? I don't wanna even look at it, much less use it. If I was able to see it first, I wouldn't pay $50 for it. If the heat treat is any good, it should take me three weeks @ 2 hrs a day to make it acceptable... Love my SWKW swamp rat, but this one Is dissapointing.

I thought that all good knives were sharpened on concrete . I had an extra section of driveway poured just for applying a nice convex edge. :D

Sometimes the knives come hair-popping sharp from the factory and sometimes.... not so much. Seems like you got one from the "not so much" batch.

I'm not sure if it is one of our edge's or not since it was bought on the secondary market but it doesn't matter we'll be happy to sharpen it for you.

If you want us to resharpen it please send it to

Have you tried slicing a piece of paper yet? Sometimes an ugly edge will surprise you. That being said, I re-profile just about every knife I get even some customs.

I sure would like to see a picture of the blades edge, sounds like some one used it to practice their sharpening skills ,which still need to be honed......my HC came clean and sharp....I love it....My HC #16 was not toothy, mine was pretty clean

the edge on mine is ugly as well although it is functional. I am not going to mess with it though, I am going to keep this one as is due to the low number. If I end up with another one I will definitely want to clean that edge up.

Yes. Many edges are made with a low grit # belt. Doesn't make em bad. Toothy edge. In a lot of ways, it will cut BETTER that way.

Don't worry, I've talked to a a lot people, and the Scrapyard Mud Puppy LE and Swamprat Hairy Carry LE have very rough edges, that's just how they came.

Here was my MPLE.

It should sharpen out nicely though.

Mine had a really rough edge, must be the steel. The Mudpuppy my son got had the same edge.It polished up great.

Both the Mudpuppy and the 2008 SE HC went straight to the 120 grit DMT for a re-profile. After trips across a coarse and a fine stone then 600 grit sandpaper and a few slides along the strop both are super sharp and ready to cut something. I used the Mudpuppy to slice up a juicy tender Boston Butt on Sunday and there was no drag while slicing only parting of the pork!

Mine was beautiful with no problems what-so-ever. Sorry to hear your's wasn't satisfactory. On the upside, even though you bought it secondary, Eric has already offered to make good on it for you.

I doubt that many other brands would do that. Eric will make it right.

Looks pretty similar to MRpink's... Yes t will cut paper, but it is REALLY TOOTHY.. not unacceptable, just not what I expected... for a LE. Like I said, my Warden came with a nice polished edge... which is what I like.. I have experiminted with all kinds of sharpening methods in my knife years... for a looooong while, I liked a toothy edge... in many ways it DOES cut better... but I REALLY believe that a polished edge lasts longer. I'm not afraid to hit it with my sharpmaker... I've got it down pretty good. Although I have two buddies who are pretty new to knives who are interested in upgrading from their Benchmades... I'll prolly let it go so I can buy an SnG.

Mine came and I like a toothy edge for everything but push cutting wood. It is great for vegetable matter and fish/meat especially. Like microserrations. My Rosarms knives are the opposite with a very very polished edge and I sometimes roughen it up by going over it with a coarse diamond stone.

Mine came with a very rough edge too.

I don't understand the whole "send it back to be re-sharpened" thing though. If you're going to collect/use knives, learn to sharpen them. I have a $100 Home Depot belt sander with a bunch of different grit belts and a leather stropping belt, and I can take any edge from rough and scary to razor sharp and mirror polished in 5 minutes.

I do have to chime in, I love the busse kin knives and love my HCLE but it seems pretty obvious they either rushed them out or didn't care. The edge on my HC is sharp but very rough looking, in comparison my RMD or warden came with a very nice polished look about them. I am not going to compare (well maybe I will) but take Barkies for instance, they are by far the sharpest and finest edges of any out of the box knife around and Mike takes great pride in the edges he puts on his knives, I wish more attention would be paid to that by the busse shop. That is not meant to be a dig, just an observation in hopes that someone reads these things and takes it to heart. I love all my rats and the HCLE is no exception, just making a point:confused:
