Anyone know where I can find a chunk of Horse Stall Mat, thicker the better? Maybe one square foot? I see 4x6 sheets online, but I don't need so much, and don't care to spend $50+. Just need to re-handle a machete and make scales for a spyderco mule. Open to suggestions if there are any similar products in smaller sizes.

Thanks!

I get the horse stall matt from a local feed store.

However, it's about 3/4 inch thick. I use this stuff to sit machines on and stuff.

Is this the same stuff you want for handle material?

I have some rubber floor matting for shop floors. Lots of spare chunks left over, probably about 3/8" thick. You pay shipping and i'll throw a bunch in a flat rate envelope for ya' (as much as will fit). More than enough for some handles.

Good article in Blade reciently about using these mats for handles.

Thanks for the offer, but I have some on the way from another kindly gentleman.

That was what gave me the idea. I wanted something easy, yet tough and grippy. Seems perfect for a machete.

I am going to pick one up next week probally. I think a place near me sells a full mat for about $40. Enough mat for probally 150 knives!

You wont be dissapointed with those grips on a machete

What kind of material is the rubber in the mats? I only ask because I did a stacked-washer handle made with some Neoprene sheeting from McMaster-Carr. I think the stuff I used was 50A durometer, and I think I should've gone a bit higher for the chopping it was meant to endure.

man 50 bucks for a 4x6 sheet that would make 256 sets of 1.5x4.5 scales:D . and is very cheep at .195 cents a set

I use horse stall mats on the floor of my shop. They are easy on the back and have saved me a lot of grief on the 'rare' occasion I drop something. Got some at Southern States (I think they went out of business) and the rest at a Tractor or Farm supply store.
