Locks up good, but I think I will feel safer when the liner gets a little bit more under the tang.

It's sharp, Sharper than my mini 7. Shaves easily, slices paper like its nothing, and I don't think the chisel makes it drag so much.. At least not compared to the true chisel grind of the 7.

The lock is a littlebit sticky, bit that will go away in a week or so.

I know you have seen all this before, but I wanted to share anyway.

I found none of the things I have read about other places, regarding lack of fit/finish and other problems..

Haven't tried it, I allways have to buy online, without trying them beforehand.. :/ but the journeyman looks like a nice knife, with a useful bladeshape!

Good catch.
The Mini CQC-8, a.k.a. "Horseman" is one of my favorites.

The lock stick is getting more and more smooth, i'm looking forward to get out of the desk job and back on patrole, so ot can get some use:)

The Horseman is a good one. I have the serrated model and it's a great "town and country" blade.
Does everything I need it to from boxes at work to heavy yard work. Congrats on yours, enjoy it!

I hope your Horseman experience is better than mine. I have had 3 Emersons over the years and just sold my last. I have a 2000 Commander that my wife got me for our first anniversary that has been a disappointment from day 1. I have a Benchmade CQC-7 that is AWESOME and just recently got a Horseman that is one of the biggest wastes of money I have ever spent on a knife. Fit and finish is a joke, loved the design, blade, style and all, but the deal breaker is the absolute lack of a detent. The ball and the hole are not even remotely in the same plane. I had to tighten the pivot so tight just to keep it from opening in my pocket that it was useless. So I called Emerson about warranty work and explained how disappointed I was and was told they would fix it for free, just pay both way shipping and insurance. OVER $25 FOR THIS. I already spent close to $200 on a knife and they don't back it up enough to pay for the shipping to fix their piece of junk. I sold it and let the next guy deal with it (at a big loss I might add). It is pretty sad that Emerson Designs made by other mfr's are worlds above his own product. I have bought $15 chinese rip-offs that are worlds above in quality than this crap, Horseman and Commander both. My Commander is so out of center that I can't stand to look at it, let alone carry it. I keep it around for this and the fact that it is a really cool looking knife. I would sell it too if it wasn't a gift from my wife. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Rant over.

Sorry to hear that! The detent on mine is almost to hard, it's the same as my mini 7, that thing will never open unless I want it to (or accidently halfwave it when I take it out of the pocket). What model (year) was yours?

I wish that was the problem I had. That I could fix myself. I really wanted to like this knife as it is sexy as hell and a very usable size and blade. Turned me off of Emerson completely. You shouldn't pay that much and end up with this kind of quality. Seems like they are VERY inconsistent. In these days of CNC machining, I don't understand why quality would not be easily repeatable.

Don't know what to say.. Sounds like you have had bad luck! I started with a mini 7, part serrated. the edge was a bit thick, but I liked it, and after using is I wanted to try the v-grind, on a blade with some belly (the horseman). And now, after the Horseman I want to try the fullsize, plainedge 7, with a V-grind.

My wallet won't allow me to plan anything further than that, but I'm afraid there is a commander or a 15 lurking in a distant future to.. After the next 7, that is :) My mini 7 is a 2014 and my Horseman is a 2016 btw

I have been (obviously) a long time lurker, but had to put it out there after this experience. I will try to be more active so as not to feel your wrath :) I really want to like Emersons, I really love their styling (other than those horrid flippers with the wave) but I guess I will just admire from afar. Kind of like Angelina Jolie, what a looker, but stay away from that train wreck!

Well, I don't know about the AJ comparison, but point well taken. I think EKI's are far from the prettiest girl, but boy can they get stuff done. We'll just have to agree to disagree. :)

I definitely feel that EKI's can get stuff done, they just aren't up to the fit and finish of the price they are asking, at least not in my experience. Maybe I just got a bad couple, but consistency is obviously not their strong point.

My Horseman is probably my favorite modern folder. Unfortunately I have had some service needs on mine and it is currently back at Emerson for the second time. Nonetheless, I love the knife and cannot wait to have it back! Horseback riding and working is most of my day and free time and I love using the Horseman as designed. I haven't seen a review of the Horseman that focused on horse work, but it is very ideal in that role.

What was the peoblem with yours bk14?
