The coolest thing about a satin blade is the ease of maintenance. I left my Camp Blood in the wood pile last night, and it rained leaving a fair distribution of rust, so this morning I hit it with 320 and 5 miniutes later all rust and oxidation was gone. Very cool.

The other thing I did is, instead of finishing with a hard Arkansas stone in my sharpening process, I took an old piece of scrap leather and some Flitz polish and stroped that edge to a mirror....scary sharp!

Thats cool, I better put a satin finish on mine now.

Yup on the satin. Phill Hartsfield introduced me to the "duty" finish.

I get distracted sometimes, usually by the kids or dogs, as far as Cosa's wood pile....well, , hmmm...hand sani would be a definite.

BTW, Brian, thanks for getting me going on the strop!

Back to strops for a minute. I have one with black, one with green. I need just a leather one also for the final step?

I am a strop illiterate. I use diamond stones to maintain a V grind edge, but today I put some Flitz on a piece leather. I haven't used compound, green or black.

Truk, you should be able to get crazy sharp, and I do mean crazy, with "just" black and green. If you go with a strop bat, the pink and plain leather will just get you the final 2-3%.

trog, those are two sweet blades!

Thanks for posting the photos maine!

Speaking of Carto, welcome back btw, and others that have been absent, where is Nikoruso, tomthebaker....man, I had a list going I just can't remember everyone...

I have been here, lurking in the darkness, watching humanity crumble......

Pepper, with a V grind you need to be exact (the grind is shaped like a V). With a convex edge (strop) the tip looks like the tip of a .223 bullet and gives you more margin for error. Most people find a convex edge actually gets sharper while first using it. I think I'm going to make a video on how to sharpen a Horton. Post any questions you have so I can answer them in the video.

Carto, You are freaking me out man. Are we going to make it or will the crumbling continue?

Brian, thanks a lot, I have been a stoner for years...I like the precision of it. That video would be cool.

hey guys, this is my roommate. sounds like he has a broken pelvis. send smoke and prayers:

Des Moines Police officer Nick Lloyd is recovering at Mercy Medical Center after being hit by the driver of a Ford F-150 Pick-up. Des Moines Police Sgt. Lori Lavorato says his injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

According to Lavorato, Lloyd and another officer were called to the 1500 block of Evergreen for a fight. When police arrived, the driver of the truck hit the police car. Officer Lloyd had just got out of the police car was and behind the driver side door when the car was hit. The impact threw Lloyd to the ground where he was ran over. Sgt. Lavorato says it is uncertain if the police car or the truck ran the officer over.

The second officer was not injured. Des Moines Police took the suspect into custody moments after the incident. Police say he assaulted two women prior to hitting the officer. His name has not be released, but Des Moines Police say charges are expected to filed soon.

For the strop challenged like me. :(

Large, sorry to hear that, a broken pelvis is serious as it usually means internal soft tissue damage. Prayers out to him friend.
