Hospitals, Hikes and Hissing creatures !!!

So me and Maisy were just about to set off for a great hike when I got a phone call from Pit Jr's school.Hike cancelled because then I have to rush Jr to the local hospitals A&E !!!!
Anyway after much waiting around at the hospital we finally make it back home and as time is getting on I decide to just take Maisy to my local park.
I had not been there for a while and it turned out great, the floors were carpeted with amazing displays of flowers, the views were great and I bumped into one of the slithery locals........

Yeah he's fine, turned out some kid threw a pine-cone that hit him in the eye, I asked Jr if the pine-cone was made of concrete as it's made a right mess of his face and has also scratched his eye itself.
As I type this he is sat on the sofa looking like a pirate with his eye patch on !!! All I can think is they must be whopping big heavy pine-cones at his school !!!:eek:
 
Yep, pine cones in the eye are no good... My sister hit me in the eye with one when we were kids! Glad to hear that it is no worse than that though... BTW, what kind of snake is that?
 
Well its good to hear that JR is OK! On the other hand, I have never seen a Garter snake as pretty as that one. Thanks for the pics and I hope his eye heals up soon.
 
That second pic nice,,, I love it how it shows the mountain in the back... You should have a back room sitting empty for any one of us to just show up and stay there for a while to walk the trails you do...
 
Just taken the patch off Pit Jr's eye, looks like he's gonna have a shiner in the morning !!!

A pinecone?!?

The irony--think of all the neat things Pit Jr probably knows and can do/make with pinecones! Projectile weapon was probably not among them.

Who throws a pinecone?
 
Hey Pit jr., look after that eye. Even watching television sucks with only one eye. A couple of times I had an eye patch on for 12 hours - man, I didn't like it at all.

i'm glad jr. is okay... that's a nice shiner he has... i had plenty of those when i was kid, though they weren't from pine cones...:o
 
Normally I view garter snakes as being nondescript, but that one is stunning. I have never seen one with that coloring.

And for those who wonder what a pine cone can do...there are pine cones and then there are pine cones. Look at this picture of a sugar pine cone and coulter pine cone:

Hey Pitdog, I almost got all excited thinking you had a sharp-tailed snake there. They are considered endangered in BC. The head shape looks wrong though and the stripes a bit too pronounced. Do you have a non-cropped or another picture that shows the tail of this guy? Also what was its size? (Sharp tails are tiny)

It probably is a garter though based on the head and striping.

Yeah I'll post a full body pic this afternoon, I was guessing Garter as I didn't think there were any others !

Looking back on past experiences with pines and pine trees, there may be a bit of swelling coming his way before things settle down.. Pine resin can REALLy get a body fired up.. I looked like I was in a fight with Mike Tyson by the 4 th day, then things settled down.. Wish all the best for Jr :thumbup::thumbup:, keep those good and clean !!
