Which one would you recommend as far as quality, sturdiness, etc. I'm thinking of getting another big, tough folder and these two came to mind.

vs

I also don't care about the weight or size in pocket or anything like that.

The Pohl Force is better made and more exclusive, but it has a design flaw in that there is no section on the tang to rest against the lockbar in the closed position. Instead, part of the blade acts as a stop. Also, the lockbar is very thin in one part.

So you recommend the Retribution between those two?

I have the Pohl Force Alpha 2 and it is a bog folder - well made, lock up is solid. I was concerned with early pics about the thin part on the lockback before I actually owned one - but the knife is so big that the lockback isn't actually that thin.

Even though it is a big knife it offers a lot of very comfortable grip positions.

The 440C holds an edge very well - the knife is a beast.

I cannot speak to the Retribution.

Do you think it was worth the price?

I've only owed a Retribution. Huge knife, contoured comfortable handle of canvas micarta, very good blade steel, easy to sharpen in the field, Ti frame lock with micarta overlay (they call it a liner lock, but once you've seen the thickness you'll know what I mean).

It's as rugged as they come and feels like a fixed blade knife. Made by FOX cutlery of Maniago Italy and cheap for what you get in comparison to other knives for ruggedness and equivalent fit and finish.

I have both Retribution folders. They are currently with Reese Weiland getting tip up L/R holes and a clip. He's also making Emerson style G10 scales for them. I waved both of em. Just remember it doesn't have a clip.

Although I really like my Hossom Forester, I'd go with the Alpha because it looks ultra badass, has a clip, and because I"m a firm believer in German exceptionalism. I'm sure my German ancestors are disgusted with me because I haven't bought it yet. I can't get it where I live, so I guess I'm going to have to order it on-line. Deustchland uber alles!!! Pohl Heil!!

Haha Well that is another for the alpha.

I had a Pohlforce knife for a time and it was great. I would have kept it except it was the smaller version and german law doesnt allow them to include the thumb ramp. I'm too used to one hand opening so I let it go.

You can get the big one in a plain edge D2 coated blade. That's the one I would go for. Its a great knife when it has the thumb ramp. If it were just a bit smaller I would definitely get one.

What kind of money do they cost over there? We have a local distributer who does them for what I think is a good price. PM if you want the details.

They are 200$ here.

OK, about the same as here, with shipping factored in. Its a cool and unique knife, I'd say go for it. As long as you like 'em monster big though! ;)
