Hossom Retribution 1 vs pohl force alpha 2

Do you think it was worth the price?

IMHO it's probably worth close to what I paid - I think it was $199 on the rim and out the door. However, I am a big folder guy, have bought, traded and sold many knives, and really wanted to give this model a try.

Some would argue that frn handles and 440C steel aren't worth that, and probably would be able to spew a list of other knives that are better alternatives at lesser prices, and they would be right.

If memory serves me correct - Mr. Pohl donated one for a pass around - you might want to see if that is still available to try out.

I'm a big fan of the Retribution 1 folder. I've had three of them, but currently have only one. As CM said, it does not have a pocket clip because Jerry Hossom designed the handles to flare out at each end and a clip would not have fit it very well. But it can have a clip. I took mine apart and sanded down the handles until they were flat, with just a little rise in the palm area, and then placed a deep carry clip on it in tip up position. I carried it exclusively for several month last spring/summer. With the deep carry clip it rode in my pocket with nothing showing but the clip on the outside of my pocket.

It is definately built TOUGH. The titanium liners measure .100" thick, while the N690Co blade is .200" thick. All three of the ones I had came hair shaving sharp from the box, with excellent fit/finish. The lockup is also solid with no blade movement in any direction. I also gave the locking liner a little more bend to ensure that the lock would not come unlocked until you are ready to unlock it. At the same I put phospher bronze washers in to replace the standard teflon washers it comes with.

Even without the mods I did this is a very tough and heavy duty knife that I would feel comfortable counting on in an emergency. It also ships with a nice nylon (thick) sheath that is very usable if you don't care about a pocket clip.

I've only seen the Pohl folder in pics, but I like what I have seen of it, except for the handle scales, didn't like the material, or style of the grips, but that's just me as I'm sure they are fine. It seems like I saw one with some after market micarta, or G-10 grips and it really looked nice!

Either way you gop I think you will be pleased.:)

There is also the Alpha 3, with d2 steel and a tanto point.

I love that alpha 3!!! By the way I'm releived that someone on this thread found my first post somewhat amusing. After I posted it, I was a little worried that someone would take it seriously and I'd get my posting fingers rapped by the moderator.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe the Pohl is actually made in Germany.

Gruess Gott. Ich bin auch Deutsch.

That one doesnt have the thumb disc, so no one hand opening...

They ship it like that, with the disc unattached. The disc and the mounting screw are in the inside pocket of that pouch in the picture. Or that's at least how I received mine. Has something to do with german knife laws, with the disc unattached it is two-handed opener and therefore legal
