Anyone ever mess with hot blueing a blade? I tried a cold blue on one and it came out sub par and started to even rub off once it went in and out of the kydex a few times . Didn't know if hot blueing would work any better.

Cold blue works better when you heat the steel but it's not good for knives .Hot blue is better but that will wear off soon to.

any type of "rust bluing" will wear off... at least as far as I know. it's just a layer of controlled oxidation. any kind of abrasion will eventually wear through it, thats why older guns that have been worn for years in a holster have bright spots worn through the bluing, even when carried in a soft leather holster. just the nature of the beast!

Ian just used some kind of coating on a dagger. Hopefully he chimes it with info and details.

I have a hot bluing line set up. There are many knife parts that can be blued such as wrought iron, damasucus and mild steel. This is an example of hot blued damascus.
