My friend Mr. Goo has been working on a video for the last few months now and he has finally got it completed. Tai has been into bladesmithing about twice as long as I have and I've always been amazed at what he can do with just a hammer and an anvil. He doesn't really get into forging a knife blade completely but does demonstrate forging a point and the shoulders for a tang. He also demonstrates upsetting, bending, twisting, and several others things. For a person just getting interested in forging and even if you've been at it a few years there's something new to learn. Here's a link: http://www.taigooknives.com/media/video-1.shtml I forgot to mention the homemade music. :D

I'm waiting for mine. It's probably already waiting for me in the mail back home. I get back to the islands tomorrow and will check it out.

I enjoyed the heck out of it, especially since it's too hot to go down to Tai's and get more hands-on instruction. Tai and I hadn't really covered twisting or upsetting so it was great to see it in the video, especially since the next project I have planned will probably require both.

My kid (3.5 years old) sat glued to the TV, singing along to each strike of the hammer. He's a little weird sometimes.

I know this one was a lot of work but I hope Tai does some more. Are you listening, Tai? :D I'd love to see a start-to-finish WIP DVD or two (or three!).

Thanks for the heads-up, Raymond! I'll never pound steel again, but ordered one anyway just for the fun of watching Tai at the forge.

Thanks Ray!

... and thanks to all the folks who ordered one already. :)

Mike, yours went out today.

Dan, yours went out too.

Dustin, yours as well.

Phil, yours should be there waiting for you already.

Old freehand hammer Goo

Thanks, Tai! I look forward to watching it often over the years, as I do the Hood's Woods vid now. I look forward to your music, too!

Should be a keeper......ordered one today &
really looking forward to it....

I ordered one as soon as Tai emailed about it. Good view. I love how it's just good ol' forging technique. No bells and whistles, just meat (except for the string base work :D ). Great video for a hot-steel beginner like myself. Thanks, Tai, and keep me posted, especially if you do any more blade oriented vids.

A star is born! :D

Tai, Your welcome. I feel this video is a good tool. When are you going to start your next production?

Shucks guys?

I don't really know quite what to say,... except, It's been a great ride so far...

Thanks to all who've helped make this production a success!

(Learning as I go)
Old Hand Crank Goo... :)

Got mine today. All in all very good. I learned a lot; probably
learned more because of watching Christoph Derringer last
weekend. More seemed to sink in that way.

One bit of advice for future videos. A number of times you
showed something to your apprentice and he agreed but the
camera was too far away for me to see what you were showing.

Thanks for doing this Tai.

Dan

Tai,

Just ordered a copy of the video.

I've admired the work from your forge since I became interested in creating edged tools back in 02. Can't wait to receive my copy so I can see some of your forging technique and listen to some of the music you created to go along with it. :D
