It's been really hot, but I can't let it keep me from hiking. I just bring lots of water nd extra sunscreen. I was also dying to try out my Maddog PATAK.

Very nice area, that is a very good looking knive. I've heard some good things about MadDog, thanks for sharing.

That looks smaller in the hand than I expected. Neat package. Curious as to how well that finish holds up now. Interesting.

The hard chrome finish is supposed to be really durable. Along the edge it looks more polished from rubbing the sheath. I was curious to how it would be as a field knife and it seems to be great so far. Handle is really comfortable and it's a mean cutter.

I'm about 40 miles north of LA. Pretty much desert conditions in the areas I hike.

Yep, O1 steel, my favorite :D

I left the camera in the rental, but I can at least attest to the durability of the hard-chrome finish. Mine is shinier in several spots where's it's been used or rubbed against the sheath. It's held up well considering the jungles of South America (Ecuador/Peru) for 6 months; several field exercises in North Carolina, Georgia and Texas; and most recently a 15 month tour to Iraq...I thought the sand would strip the finish off, but I was able to wash out the sheath and keep both pretty clean on a monthly basis. It continues to serve well. I've only had light rust on the very edge that easily came off with an eraser or a few strops on some leather.

It's a tough knife. On several occasions I blatantly abused it by hammering some nails in my wood bed post to hang some essential items on in Iraq...not really the right tool, but it was at hand. I'm tempted to buy another one (in 3/16) when I retire and give my current one to my son when he's a little older.

Looks like you had a great time tknife! Your PATAK looks great. I must say I had to work today on Father's Day here at Fort Lewis, but I was able to take an extended lunch to see my father and give him his first Leatherman (the Wave). He was impressed...even more so since I haven't been able to see them since before I deployed.

I'm a skeptical git, and when something isn't very widely used in the rest of the industry ...

Sounds like you've had it in more real world tests than I suspect most buyers will. Peachy, Cheers.

I think what I like best about the finish is, it doesn't look like it has a finish on it. It looks like bare steel, feels like it too.

Great pics T!

I saw this thread at home and was almost wishing I could be here at work so I could see the pics! Now I can. Great shots.

Thanks everybody. The one benefit of when the weather turns real hot is I usually have the trails to myself. (Smarter people are inside somewhere that's air conditioned :D)
