First Hello,

Just wondering if any of you have to rob the power from the hot tub or dryer to get power to one or some of your machines for making knives? I am just about to start and cleaning out a room but the grinding type work will have to be done outside and only so much juice in so many places to power stuff.

If you have shared power outlets have you set any of them up for a double plug in so you don't have to keep changing power cords to run one or the other? If you have a way that you have hooked two in to one could you please let me know how you do it? Don't see adding anything that will need 220 until some time this summer but want to get set up for when I do.

Files, vise, portaband, drill press, some sort of small sander, have dremel so just get lots of sand paper in different grits ben gay and on my way lol. Have not got this stuff yet but in process of getting it.

Thanks for any replies,

Many folks have to use the existing power outlets because they rent or will not be staying where they are a long time. A dryer outlet, or hot tub fixture, will supply 220 at sufficient amperage for any normal shop tool. Generally, they just switch the plugs when starting work, and switch them back again when done for the day. The biggest thing this does is ensures that someone won't run the dryer/hot tub while the shop tools are turned on. That could blow the breaker.

You could make a heavy duty double socket, single plug pig-tail. but the cost would hardly be worth the minor inconvenience of switching the plugs.

Problem, switching plugs is normally a hassle when the socket is located low behind the appliance...
Given human nature, this often leads to makeshift adaptations.
