House Camping!

You might find it midly amusing, or disturbing as the case may be, to hear that some special interest groups wish to ban them because of pollution concerns.

How we made it this far without total extinction, I am not sure. It seems as though the farther we get along in our evolution, the more stupid we become.

I attribute it to people, who believe the power never goes out, the animals are better off not being food and that poulty and beef they buy in the stores dies of natural causes. Its folks who drive battery powered cars, bitching about pollution, and have a damn battery in their car that has enough lead and acid in it, to ruin 500 sqft of soil for use. And the battery will be dead in 9 years, so, all they gotta do is buy another one. Shheeesh!!

Same folks who have never grown anything but impatient, while waiting in line at Staryuk's. Never raised anything but hell, when they get stuck in traffic, and can't get home to watch the biggest loser. They think that police are the only ones that need guns, and there is NO WAY, anything bad can happen to them, because, they live in America. Same folks that were amazed that Americans can be attacked, and that the war in Iraq is about freedom.

Sorry, rant over.

I like burning wood to stay warm, it works whether I pay the electric bill, or not.

Moose,

No argument from me! Worse yet, where are all of these theoretical electric cars going to get power? Coal and natural gas power plants, some nuclear. But the same people don't want to burn coal and natural gas and they don't want nuclear power plants.

They're children. The only problem is, for the most part, those children are running, and ruining, the country.

I'm all for less oil, gas and diesel use, but I mean...damn. Someone has to be an adult and accept reality.

I can agree with that. I think people in general are getting worse. I had some WWII vets in my family and some that were family friends. Tough ass people. They were tougher, simpler people that just rolled up their sleeves and got to work, when there was work to be done. These tree/bunny huggers (Jeff Randalls of the world) need to realize what they do and use is no different than anyone else, just their perspective is different.

Damn, been on this soap box long enough, I think I can see my house from here.

I cant believe the govt thinks that they can tell you when you can/cant burn wood. Most sheeple think that beef/vegetables are produced in the back of the supermarket they buy it in. I have honest to god heard this comment, "I dont know why we need farmers or farmer markets anymore, because supermarkets produce all of our food now!"

"Why do you need to hunt/slaughter animals, when you can just go to the grocery store and buy your meat?"

Honest injun Ive heard people say that.

where do u live, the same thing happened in altoona pa

Windsor Ontario.

I use a wood burning stove for heat in my house. I also have a couple of electric heaters, but primary is the stove. Its the first thing I did to my house when I bought it.
I love having that wood burning stove though, its like a big, black steel security blanket for cold weather.

Moose

Wish we had a wood stove or fireplace. You don't get to choose when you rent though.

Then I rediscovered astronomy, and now I find myself happly hoping for a good storm to pull down the grid and kill the darn light dome over the city.

It is amazing how much more one can see once the light pollution is removed.:)

I am not for laws, but it should be against the law, NOT to have a wood stove in your house.

This is a house built in the 1920's which was remodelled in the 50's, then made into a 4 apartment building somewhere in the 70's.
Not sure where one could stick a woodstove that would be useful here; certainly no room in this small one bedroom apartment.
I also wouldn't trust my neighbours not to burn the place down; the last group of morons in the front unit ran a grow-op and threw all their garbage on the front step. Awesome.

When I get a house built, I'll be having some means of burning wood for heat though, that's for sure.

In the meantime, it was good to have the experience to learn a couple of things (like how many candles it takes to boil water and heat a room:)).

unfortunately living in an apt can be a drag for extended many days without power in the Winter. one has to manage in certain ways. after about 5 days, we were offered emergency relocation to a hotel... i declined. got Winter gear. thought it was kinda fun. a couple weeks would be seriously SERIOUSLY annoying.

in a house at least, there are measures one could and SHOULD take. emergency transfer switch for one. wood stove. wood. chain saw. gas. batteries. oh yeah.
