How’s it in the hand?

Fell head over heels when I got it. One of my top two favorites. The other being a CRK, small regular. Of course my Spyderco PM2 and PM3 have a special place
That's great. I have delica, lil' native, DF2. Am on a mission for non-China made knives (I know their quality is up there with the rest, but I can't abide that CCP and their nastiness). In fact non-China made anything if I can help it, including flashlights (SF!) T-shirts and underwear. When buying Spyderco now I'm favouring USA-made. Q. on the PMs – which do you use/favour more?

I love my PM2, I did trade a Crucarta one, but still have one in S20CV and Cruwear.

Actually not much different in blade length. In the handle is where the difference is. A bit deceiving actually, when I carry the 3 no one bats an eye so that is the one I take to work, S45vn. Off work and weekends I prefer the 2 usually in Cruwear, I am smitten with the Cruwear. I do have a2 in M4 that I favor as well. The handle is more substantial, I have larger hands so it works better for harder use. I like to go between the two as the lock is the same and is intuitive for my use.

Great, thanks. I'm in New Zealand and technically aren't allowed to carry knives without specific reason ;-). So the sheeple and size is moot. I also have XL hands so PM2 sounds great; I'll have to try. Now just the handle choice. My lil' native is CruWear - super sharp.

20CV vs CruWear; which do you prefer or do you perceive a difference? I have CruWear and am getting M390 soon.
Honestly I don't use them hard enough to notice a difference and both are DLC, so corrosion/staining isn't a factor. They both strop back readily. I doubt that you will be disappointed in any iteration of the PM2, assuming it is pristine from the factory. For me it's more about the handle material. My 20CV is a tan G10 which soaked up some dye from my blue jeans in only one day. My cruwear is smooth black G10 and has no such issue.

How's it in the hand? Right now, small and kinda squishy.

Lol.

Now that I've decided to keep my Heretic Medusa, I'm ready to put to work. Though the curved handle means the blade to handle ratio is a bit off, it is so comfortable in hand it is worth it. I literally just wanna cut everything in sight as soon as I hold it.

When you hold a hammer everything looks like a nail! Cut baby cut!

Thanks for that. I've also for the first time ordered a strop bat and 1μm compound from Stroppy Stuff in the UK (great guy, he supplies the Dutch Bushcraft Knives guys on YouTube). So looking forward to that.

I regularly find myself smoothing edges and corners on knives.

My most favorite Spyderco in hand is one that I significantly modified to be that way: deleting the protrusion that forces my grip, rounding scale edges, rounding the thumb ramp, crowning the spine, and chamfering the hole.

I don't find the Manix 2 comfortable. I had to give it a serious going over before it felt like a knife I'd want to use without gloves. Every one of them I owned, which was a Manix 2 in S110V, 2 Manix 2 XLs in S30V and a Manix 2 Lockback also in S30V. The latter is the only one I can find a pic of at the moment. This is what it looked like after I did the mods a few years ago:

I have a new contender...

From REK Knives REK Knives , the Ember 3.0

You have to feel it to get it. It really is that good. It's a little knife, (3" blade), that fits and locks into the hand like a big knife. (The jimping along the spine is exceptional.) But don't take my word for it. If you can find one on the Exchange or from the maker...do yourself a favor.

That’s probably my favorite shape I’ve come across so far, looks similar to the horseman and xm 18. I would really like to try the fat bottom betty though!

I just sold an XM-24 Sheepsfoot which I loved but was getting no carry time. (Just a bit larger and heavier than I needed for regular carry.) Went to a long time member that was looking for one...so it worked out great for both of us.

This Ember, however, is going to get daily carry as a neck knife or in pocket. So clean.

(Yeah, I'm a fan of the modified sheepsfoot pattern. The Ember, Insingo, ZT 0456, and others.)

I have larger than usual hands (XXL gloves on my first aid course were the only ones I didn't rip through putting them on). It's one of the reasons I watch certain knife reviewers/channels, like David C Andersen on KnifeCenter, because I can see how the knife fits his hands with his big mitts. I pay close attention to handle length on knives, but some smaller ones have worked out well. It's great when you find a short knife blade with a long handle (LT Wright Boattail or Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter). Some designers seem to put pointy bits on the handle in exactly the wrong spot for me (TOPS), but for someone else it's probably a perfect fit. Some designers (Sal Glesser and Jesper Voxnaes) seem to make knives that work for my hands perfectly no matter what size they are.

Less bumpy bits, ridges, and sharp points on my handle are good. Rounder is generally better than flatter. Gimping is fine. The choil either needs to be very tiny or big enough for a finger to move forward in. A less busy handle is probably something I'll want to use more.

Two-layer SAK Evolution. Also, I was nicely surprised how good the small two-layer Case Congress (their vault release this year) feel in hand.
