how 2 yweak my knife handle

i just got the browning/barker comp. knife with a micarta handle i like it but the handle is to slick an blocky for me, can i sand it or cut grooves in it,do i have to put a finish on it after,or how can i texture it.

Cool knife! Just looked at it and yes it's Micarta (guessing canvas) so all you have to do is get some 220 grit and sand away. It will get grippier as you sand it down exposing the canvas from the resin. You can also have it bead blasted (have to mask off all the exposed metal) and that will grip it right up too.
