I would like to see Benchmade offer the 710 with aluminum handles and M2 tool steel. I know of a few people that bought one of each and switched the blades, but who wants to do that? Maybe they could offer it as a knife of the month?

here is a pic of a 710HSSRAL that Alligator made by switching blades:

How is the grip with the aluminum handles? The 710 is my favorite pocket knife. My only regret is that I didn't get it with the M2 blade. One with aluminum handles would be great if it is still grippy. But please no serrations.

I agree, no serrations. My understanding is that the aluminum handles are pretty grippy. I haven't handled one myself though. Would anyone else care to chime in?

For my uses, the aluminum scales are "grippy" enough. It actually feels "dry" even when my hands get sweaty. I also like the slimmer grip and the solid feel of metal scales. The flat black finish on the aluminum has so far resisted scratches but I'm not too concerned about keeping the user knife in "cherry" condition. While the 710AL works for me, I believe it is a matter of preference when choosing between the G-10 and AL.

The G-10 version appears to be lighter by personal in-hand comparisons but not by a significant amount (I do not know their actual weights). The G-10 version also feels thicker gripwise which I would think is an advantage in resisting torsional forces. I do not particularly like textured finish of the G-10 on the 710 (IMO, kind of "spongy" and "tacky").

Would I buy a 710HS AL? Yes! (plain edge)
