How about a GIVEAWAY?

Mr. Lapp,
I just want to say thank you again for the generous gift. My son Christopher, CJ jr. really loves the watch. He did his orientation today at Camarillo Airport, and got to "fly" a Cessna with his squadron. My wife disagrees with me that I gave CJ the watch, she said he is too young to know what to do with it. Just then he was turning on a bright light on that sucker. I just smiled, and she rolled her eyes. I told her it was a contest, he fit the criteria, and CJ won the watch. It is funny because I let her win most arguments, but I did not back down. I told her if I did not give CJ the watch, it would not be right for the person doing the give away. I made sure he had it today while he flew his orientation. Thanks again for bringing joy to my son's world. My wife will get over it in a year or two.:D
Those patches are cool too!

Think nothing of it. I am glad to give it to such a deserving young man. It would have been the highlight of my life if I got to fly a plane at 12 years old, so I'm sure I can imagine his elation!

The patches are the last unit I was assigned to prior to my separation from active duty. The AETC (Air Education & Training Command) patch goes on the right side top pocket of the BDU shirt, while the 82d Training Wing patch goes on the left side top pocket. I was an instructor for the Aerospace Ground Equipment Journeyman's course at Sheppard AFB, TX.

Tells the missus to blame me instead. I again applaud you for your efforts in helping him find the straight and narrow. I see it as a two-man scout team, let him lead, but you be the compass when he needs it.

Yesterday was bittersweet. CJ had drill team practice for the Simi Valley Parade. CAP was kicking off the parade and he was to march. He talked to his mom, and she was actually going to come and pick them up for her weekend visitation. CJ was torn between practice/parade and visiting with his mom 80 miles out of town. She showed up for her visitation 1 hr. late. I did not have to let them go with their mom, but I did not want to be a jerkwad, and tell them "no, she was late." We left practice and came home and CJ and his brother Killian went with their mom. I am glad I made the right decision. There will be another parade next year.

I have 2 sons in the Army- one was injured (damaged several discs in his back) and sent home, permanent disability, and the other is in Iraq for his second tour. Both were good men and hard working individuals in school as well as the Army. The oldest, in Iraq, has children now and they are at home with their mother. I can think of dozens of these men around in their units but don't know their names. If you check, you can find "Knife for a marine" or "knife for army personell" boxes by knife makers where they get together and add a bunch of things into a box and mail it to a serviceperson that has no issued knife (beleive me it happens).
