How about a list of TSA compliant traditional knives?

Many of us own many knives. Some are likley TSA complaint. 60mm/2.36" long (measure tip to bolster), <.5" wide, non-locking. 2 3/8" is too long, and 2 5/16" is under. Here's the knives I own that comply:

GEC #61 half congress (just barely under)
Kissing Crane congress (3 5/8" closed)
Camillus 3 1/8" half congress
Case 62052/64052 (vintage single/double spring...can't vouch for the 2 spring half or 4 spring full congresses)
Any peanut (obviously)
Case Sway Back Jack (and Gent) - barely under, and possibly the best TSA complaint knife

None of my 3 3/8" stockmans comply. Nor do any 3.5" sized SAKs I own.

I don't own one, but I'm certain the GEC Pemberton complies. I expect the #25s do as well. Too wide apparently. Bummer.

And obviously any Victorinox Classic/Wenger Esquire or ones built on that frame.

Please list any traditional knife you own that complies with the TSA restrictions.

Interesting idea for a thread, only one I know for sure that I own is the already mentioned Case Peanut. I'll have to check my other knives.
But awhile ago I did check my #25's - main blade too wide. At least on 251209 and 250209.
I also believe the Pemberton is just a hair too wide.
Edit - just rechecked the Pemberton and it is just over...

Speaking about SAK's, what about their 3" frame? Ambassador and so on?
Are the smaller Buck 30x legal? they should be :)

Fausto

The main clip of my 80's Camillus made 303 is too long. Can't speak for the current 3 spring ones, but I doubt they comply. The Lancer looks like it complies though. WTH don't I own one of these, BTW?

Ok - checked all my possibles! Didn't come up with much. :(
Buck 303 - no go
Queen Serpentine Jack - no go
GEC 620211 - no go

Only other two I had that work -
Northwoods Peanut (obvious, but figured I'd check anyway)
Northwoods Small Congress

That's it for me :)

Knives I own that I believe are compliant:
Case Peanut
Case Tiny Trapper
Case Small Stockman
Case Mini Copperhead Wharncliffe (I don't have the version with the pen main)
Case Small Swell Center Jack (6225 1/2) - also called Small Coke Bottle

Right on the line, to the point where I'd be wary of taking one along:
Case Pen knife (62087)
Case Serpentine Jack (62087)

Others that I don't own but should fit the rules:
Case Trappernut
Case Small Pen
Case Small Texas Toothpick
Case Tiny Muskrat
Case Small Gunstock
Case Eisenhower
Case Small Congress
Case Medium Stockman ('44 pattern) - this one might be right on the line, depending on the length of that main clip blade.

One that fits the blade requirements but may be considered to have "molded" handles due to the shape:
Case Pocket Hunter

One that is small enough but if you include the kick when measuring blade width, is slightly wider than 1/2":
Case Baby Butterbean

The Case/Bose Norfolk meets the requirements.

I don't know if I want to risk a good knife to the TSA discretion. I don't have a whole lot of faith in them. Since we're flying to Medford Oregon next July for vacation on the Rogue River, I'm just going to take a small sak with me. Maybe a Victorinox bantam with the blade shortened a bit to fit the specs.

Carl.

That's interesting - I was thinking that could be an interesting thread - knives modded to comply with the TSA.

Here's a link to a good TSA site:

Another one I was wondering about is the Northwoods Mini-Moose - anyone know if it's compliant?

I don't know that I would carry an expensive knife. Not all the Gestapo may have gotten the word. I'd suggest a rough rider peanut.

Okay, I admit I haven't read all the TSA rules but I was under the impression that compliant knives had to contain just one blade ?

My job is 90% travel, so I read up on this a few weeks ago. TSA website never mentions single blade only. Only length, width, locking mechanism, and handle shape are restricted. Multi-blades should be alright IF all blades comply with size requirements.

Victorinox Swiss Army Knife 3″ Money Clip

Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Executive

Case Peanut Pocket Knife

Case Tiny Trapper Pocket Knife

Leatherman Squirt ES4 Multi Tool

Gerber Dime Multi-Tool

Boker Medallion Titanium Knife Slip Joint Folder

These are just a few of the multitude of knives that meet the new guidelines. I wouldn’t be surprised if knife manufacturers start making and marketing knives specifically to meet the new guidelines and criteria.

Although these knives aren’t as large as the ones you may regularly carry, they may help satisfy that need to have a pocket knife with you at all times, even at thirty-thousand feet.

No kidding. The day I fly on my upcoming trip would be the day that the TSA guy forgot his ruler and he decided to wing it. Favorite peanut.... gone. Now is the time to travel with the SAKS or even a Rough Rider. I won't travel anymore with a knife I couldn't afford to lose.

I wouldn't rely on someone else's opinion or interpretation when it came to someone having the ability to take my knives away. jwren posted a direct link to the actual publication and all you have to do is read it. It even has pictures to show how they measure if anyone is unclear.

I have downloaded it and will keep it handy in case I need it.

The only TSA compliant knife is a knife that a TSA Agent in say New York lets pass but that doesn't guarantee that the same knife that got by that TSA Agent will get past the TSA Agent coming back to New York from Atlanta.

My .02¢ - Either continue to sneak em past TSA as you've done in the past or just don't carry em as you've done in the past whatever the case. Just check em in your baggage.

The Case/Bose Norfolk meets the requirements.

The biggest drawback to that is what happens when you get an ignorant TSA agent who doesn't know the rules and decides to confiscate it?

I would hesitate to carry any knife that I couldn't easily replace without any difficulty or pain in the wallet.

I measured it and it complies. I am flying this week and that is what is in my pocket. We shall see....

I have a small measure of safety--the Portland airport allows you to mail a knife back to yourself for a fee (I think it was $14 last time I got caught)

Thanks Derrick - I thought the Mini-Moose might qualify
Pretty cool that Portland airport lets you do that - I'd never heard of that before....
