How about a Mnandi with a thumbstud ?

I vote no as I like it the way it is, well, was, I've not had the opportunity to handle one with the redesigned nail nick.

I like the smooth flowing lines of the knife and think that a stud, even well done and inlaid would most likely take away its aura of elegance.

That said- my curiosity is peaked and I'D LOVE TO SEE ONE just to see how well it could be done.

Very interesting idea wether I like it or not, thanks for posting the question.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just got my first Mnandi with the new nail nick. I too, wish I could send it in to get a dainty little thumbstud installed. Most of the time I use these small knives for opening boxes. Guess what, I only have one hand free. I is unreasonable difficult to open my Mnandi with one hand, and with all the fumbling around it's a matter of time until I drop the knife doing it (that's bad). I doubt it will ever be an option though. :)

No thanks.. I would prefer opening it with 2 hands rather than adding a thumbstud...
Anyway, right now I can still open it (new version) with 1 hand..

If you need a small knife that can be opened onehanded, I recomend the small Sebenza.
If you go with a CarbonFiber-Scale it's pretty lightweight too.
I'd rather see a small Sebenza without a stud. ;)

Took the words right out of my...keyboard. ;)

It is actually very easy to open with one hand once you get the hang of it:

- Pinky on the clip
- Pinch the nail nick between thumb and middle finger
- Pull out until the tip is out of the frame
- Continue with thumb only in one fluid motion (do not stop when switching to thumb only).

that's what i do also, somewhere there is a video showing how to do it which is very well done, where i learned. also agree, thumbstud not needed although i like them on my william henrys...

You guys were right. After a couple of weeks with the Mnandi I can now open it easily one handed. Took some fumbling though!

Hey guys......don't you wish Chris Reeve added a thumbstud to the Mnandi? He could put matching inlaid wood in the thumbstud.....how cool would that be? I like the knife, but hate that little figure groove to open it.
Mnandi needs a this! I’ll probably mod it myself and add one for lefty. Since I’m lefty.

You brought back a 9 year old thread to try a ruin a perfectly awesome knife?
I carry one everyday and open it one handed most every time I use it. Buy the Mnandi for what it is. Lots of knives out there with studs

Edit: oh and welcome to BladeForums

The lack of a thumbstud is about the only thing keeping the Mnandi on my wish list if it were to had a thumbstud I would probably move it off my list.

I have the old one without the cutout, and I prefer it that way. I don't have a need to open it one handed since my purpose is as a gentleman's carry, and I often use my mnandi at church to open snacks for my son, so a forced methodic two handed open fits me.

Completely agree. The new model is hard to open with one hand.
Really? I had high hopes for the new thumb hole but held back on buying one until I could confirm it functioned better than the indent on 5he old one. How would you compare the thumb hole to the second generation indent?

You are responding to a reply from 2013. He is taking about the second Gen knife.

I have both... and the Mnandi is a MUCH more polished knife...

...even without a thumbstud! 😁

... Having said that: I DO like my Valet a whole bunch. It's just not in the same class as the Mnandi
