What is the feeling about someone researching GB&U once a month and posting the names of those listed in GB&U as just finishing the
classic smooth deal.

This would be far safer than creating a "con-artist/troll" list. One error and someone's name could be damaged seriously, while an error on the good list could be corrected with little problem.

Sure, there will be a few that might slip through the cracks, but they could never do it twice.

I would be honored to compile the monthly list if you thought this might help keep all our knife deals as safe as possible............Ira

Ira,
Here is the most complete list of which I'm aware. (I just brought it BTTT.) It hasn't been updated in quite a while. However, the consolidated lists it contains should be a great start, that is, if Jackyl doesn't have any objections to you taking it over.

I was going to say that the idea SUX, but I checked and saw there is no archive for this forum. :(

Having only sold one knife in this forum, and that transaction being over a year ago, I wouldn't show up on a good list even though I am one of the good guys.

Anyway, this list business leaves a bad taste in my mouth, like those three credit reporting agencies that don't always concur and aren't always right, but are damned hard to change once they're wrong.

Is a bad solution better than no solution? I wish I could provide a decent alternative instead of just poo pooing this idea...

The whole idea of this forum is given free access to all the information the members can make up their own minds and don't need anyone to tell them what to think. Of course members are welcome to post their personal good lists and many have -- but they aren't official.

Some of the other forums at this website have archives because they got too big for the software to handle as a single forum and had to be split up. TGB&U doesn't have a separate archive because it doesn't need one; everything ever posted here is still here (except a couple of trolls).

I know personal lists have been going around since day one, but this thread, in fact, proposes an "Official" good list which is what I was against.

If there is no archive, then how do I browse posts older than a month in such a forum? I tried looking back in the Wilderness & Survival Skills forum at one time, and couldn't go back past a month.

Thanks

Just run a search for anyone you're considering doing business with. There's a "search" button near the top of the page....

You could just keep paging along and read every thread ever posted, but it would take forever. The problem with the survival forum must have been a temporary bug, unless it was when that forum was only one month old. Old posts don't get deleted at Bladeforums; we move them to an archive if necessary but never delete them.

Someone could once a month just compile a list of those who engaged in smooth trades. One post to read. You do not sell/buy or trade, well your name would not go on the list. But have more than 20 posts, engage in two consecutive smooth deals and you remain on the list until such time as a bonafide problem arises.

I am not demanding anything, just chucked an idea out. There are hundreds of "Simon's" who visit forums like this and if one joins BF, engages in many posts and becomes somewhat known on BF, he/she could easily set up a few "deals" and screw/scam/con a formite out of money, knives or both. Just a way to be "pro-active" and add a small measure of prevention.

It is alot less damning than a scumbag list and there will still be those that skip thru the cracks, but within six months, a pretty lengthly list of honest formites would appear, and if someone's name was missing, it would simply indicate that you should investigate just a little prior to dealing........I do apologize if this seemed out of order. This was/is not my intention..........Ira

I don't think the idea is out of order at all, but I don't think it would work too well either.

For one thing, if it gets too official looking, there's a presumption that anyone not on it isn't as good as the ones who are. Obviously, that's not the intent, but it might make it hard for a new guy to sell anything :D

For another, too many names piled up on each other make it hard to find the one I'm curious about. If I wonder about someone, I do a search, and find a thread or two or three with just his name as the good guy.

Ultimately, it would be a lot of work, to compile info that's pretty easily available anyway.

Semms like a lot of work...fine with me as long as I don't have to do it. As far as I know, the Good, Bads, ugly "IS" the official list. IMO, I would rather search out the individual posts, and see how great wolfmann601 is. How he went above and beyond. Walked ten miles through the snow to get your knife out on the right day. I find that a btter reference than just knowing someone met the "minimum good list requirements". Too much organization is not always good. JMO.

I think it is a good intentioned idea gone wrong. Let's say a Simon screws a bunch of people and his name is taken off the good list. Now he's on equal ground with everyone who isn't on the good list. But many people aren't on the good list because they haven't traded yet or recently. So what was accomplished?

When I first poo pooed the idea, I thought there was no history in this forum beyond a month. But as Magician says, a search tells all and much more fairly IMHO. So double poo poo. ;)

I think it's good to chuck ideas out, Wolf. I'm just tossing in my 2 cents.

IF YOU POST AN ITEM ON THIS BOARD FOR SALE OR TRADE..
AND THE PERSON EMAILS YOU PERSONALLY.. THEN THE TRANSACTION
HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS BOARD AT ALL. IF THE PERSON RESPONDS TO THE TRANSACTON HERE WITH A POST ..THATS FINE... THE POINT HERE IS THIS..
IF A PERSON CONTACTS ANOTHER PERSON OFF THIS BOARD..AND MAKES A
DEAL OF ANYKNIND.. ITS NONE OF THIS BOARDS BUSINESS WHAT GOES ON
AS ITS A PERSONAL PRIVATE TRANSACTION... IN OTHER WORDS...
I/we DONT WANT YOU IN our PANTS..WHERE our PERSONAL BUSINESS IS CONCERNED
AND NEITHER DOES ANYONE ELSE...THIS MAY INFACT VIOLATE FEDERAL
TRADE LAW AND STATE LAW..INTERSTATE COMMERCE REGULATIONS..IF
THIS BOARD MAKES PUBLIC STATMENTS ABOUT PERSONAL BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS
OF PRIVATE INDIVUDUALS.... HOWEVER..IF THE REQUEST AND THE REPLY
ARE BOTH ON THIS BOARD..THATS FINE...AS LONG AS THEIR IN PUBLICLY
POSTED NOTICE THAT THAT INFORMATION WILL BECOME PUBLIC. I AGREE THAT
IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE SOME SYSTEM TO HELP EVERYONE..BUT
THAT SYSTEM CANNOT INTRUDE INTO ANYONES PRIVIACY FOR BUSINESS
TRANSACTED OFF THIS BOARD...PERSONALLY..ID SUE any BOARD THAT
PUT MY PERSONAL BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS IN PUBLIC... IVE NOTHING TO HIDE
BUT WE/IVE RIGHTS TO PRIVACY..AND I WILL PROTECT THEM..AS I SUSPECT
WILL MOST AMERICANS..ESPECIALLY THOSE ON THIS BOARD. SO...RESPECT
THE PRIVACY RIGHTS UNDER THE LAW.. AS LONG AS 2 PEOPLE CONDUCT BUSINESS ON THIS BOARD..THEIR NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR LIST..OTHERWISE
DONT GO NEAR PERSONAL BUSINESS TRANSACTIONS OFF BOARD... this is just
for advise..do what you want..but dont tread where its illegal to
do so. that way..we can all continue to use the nice efforts of mr wolfman to help keep us safe.. it will be a appreciate service. darkman

There seems to be some confusion here.... The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for people to share their experiences buying, selling, and trading knives.

Swindlers are always saying posts about them should be censored because they're not professional dealers and the forum is only for reporting transactions with members on the exchange forums here, or because they're private parties and the forum is only for reporting transactions with professional dealers, or because the victims of swindles are bound to secrecy by ethics, or because ... I'll just summarize: they have given me even more bizarre reasons too complicated to explain this late at night. No. No reports of transactions get censored from this forum.

They're always threatening to sue us, too. We love it. I collect those threats; I print them out and paper my walls with them. (Okay, I don't really, but I would if I needed the insulation....) :)

The swindlers' excuses and justifications and counter-accusations and threats don't get censored either -- and some of us save copies of certain threads when we see posts that we think the author is likely to think better of and edit later.

Let the swindler beware....

I did not know that:rolleyes:
I am talking about Deals that take place after a post appears here on BF.

and AFTER E-mail fails to resolve the questions/problems with said deal.

ESPECIALLY if said deal involves the sending of money in any form to another and nothing is returned to the sender.

That is THEFT and belongs here.

Now, if a trade goes as SMOOTH as Glass, and originated here on BF. That belongs here also.

What anyone does in the privacy of their own home is cool, as long as it is not a CRIMINAL ACT

Then, it becomes the business of others.......Ira
