How about condor machettes?

I'm looking for some new machette-like 'knives'. A store nearby sells condor machettes, which look pretty good and are fairly cheap.

However, I never heard anyonre about this brand. Is it any good? They use 420HC steel. I have a buck folder in that steel, which works fine for me. So that certainly is a plus.

How would it perform?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

I have three Condors and they are pretty quality tools. I find them at least on par with any other brand of similar products. They come with good quality sheaths as well.

i have heard good things about them, and for the price i would say grab one and try it out...

they aren't a dollar, but based on the reviews i have read they are worth the low prices they charge.

yeah check out horndog's thread about choppers.

Horn Dog has done up a number of threads comparing the Condor blades to different items. If I recall correctly, he had a fair amount of good to say about them, especially considering the price point.

The Condors chop well, but it varies with the model. The Puerto Rican 14" is amazing for such a light machete. The Cold Steels seem to be a bit tougher with a lower price. The Tramontinas are excellent and only $6.00 plus shipping. Fit and finish on the Condors is better, and they come with a quality leather sheath and polished edge, but their 420HC is only hardened to 53Rc, so don't expect the edge holding of an American made Ontario. I don't know what type machete you want, but in the traditional latin style, my favorite is the Tramontina 22" model. It has good reach, but is light enough to swing all day.
