How about this for a survival case...

The Kopylov Tesak. I can only imagine how much this one costs.

I like the knife at the bottom. I'm still trying to figure out what most of the rest of it is. I've identified:

Fixed blade
Machete thing
fork and knife
GPS? (edit: on a second look, it just looks like a pouch)
and blowgun darts?

What's the rest of it? I wonder if I could fit it all in an altoids tin. :D

Although it's impressive looking you could put your own BOB together with a better selection of tools and for about $200-$300, the survival essentials are missing, fire, water, hell a $5 space blanket has more use and takes up less room.

Now if this were an alien/predator vs. the world kinda survival, it'd sure look cool poping out the inside of the trunk of an Olds 442 along with other alien shredding equipment.;)

Okay, I give. Googled "Kopylov Tesak" and I get a bunch of stuff, but not that cool kit.

Looks like a kit for the 17-1800s. Indiana Jones style, without the guns.

NICE.

Sometimes you gun guys come off as clearly clueless. Survival is not a case of fighting off an active enemy as often as it is providing food and shelter and repairing injuries.

Your Glock will not replace my Neosporin and bandaids for a cut. :D

Esay, true on the last thing you posted. However, a "survival kit" consisting of 90% LARGE fixed blades doesnt constitute much of a survival kit, IMO. If I were going to carry a leather bag this size, I would have a good fixed blade, and as you said, Neosporin, bandaids, fishing line, hooks, fire starters, matches, emergency blanket, MRE's, etc...

When I 1st saw it for some reason the 1st thing that came to my mind was it something Captain Nemo in a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen would use and own.

FYI for those who had a hard time finding it on the net I saw it in a book I recently purchased the encyclopedia of knives which had a pic of it. They provided a link www.rusartknife.urbannet.ru/gallery.html

It is a list of several Russian knife makers. Just move you mouse over the names a look at the webaddress on the screen until you come up with Kopylov. There are lost of pics of knives in that site to.

Esav, and sometimes you "non-gun" guys also come off as clueless. A properly chosen firearm would be of considerably more valuable for obtaining food (hunting, not robbing!) than all the snare wire you can carry! I'm thinking a good .22 cal. rifle but even a handgun would be acceptable anywhere here in the West for up to Elk sized game if need be.

I'm not saying everyone should carry a firearm but don't "dis" what you don't know. Perhaps no game in New Jersey -- but then I know better, having been there!

Cool, man. But *survival*? Maybe on the streets of post-Soviet Ukrane but not in the typical way. Watch 'Survivorman' on Discovery-- that's staying alive whether you're comfortable or not. You need shelter (real shelter that can retain heat), water and food-stuff that is full of protein, fats and vitamins. That's it...that's all. Weapon of choice? Probably a good handgun; you can hunt big prey, scare-off predators and defend from any unfreindlies.
