how am i doing

v-6...do u have a pic of the last one for those that didn't see it....the new knife is a rather small pic to see.....ryan

Looks good from this prospective. If we had a comparison we could see the improvement as ryan pointed out.

getting better if we are comparing the last one I asume you mean the one with micarta right. the top one IMO should have used a straighter piece of antler but thats personal opinion it curves just a little much for me

ok never mind I get it now the top one is first the second is the new one thats what were comparing second one is alot cleaner looks good I think the choil could be a little tighter

The 2nd is a leap forward in fit, finish and execution.

My 2 cents:
There seems to be a dip between the top of the guard and the handle. That usually comes from not using something to back the sandpaper allowing the paper to bite into the softer material.

Not sure, I think I see some JB weld on the ricasso, you can pop it off with a brass scraper.

I think it looks very good especially considering that it's your 2nd knife. It looks better than many of my blades.

Keep it up!!! :D

Choil is a bit large, use a round file or don't put one on.

It's a personal preference, but I'd either forgoe the choil on the second blade, move it back so that it intersects part of the ricasso, or make it much smaller. The purpose of the choil is really to facilitate sharpening, and with the position on the blade, you've lost servicable cutting edge. They are looking really good, IMO, though.

Keep it up!

Vern,

They both look great from here! Would you be willing to share how you went about making them? It'd be very helpful for some of us beginners. For instance, what did you change and do different for your second blade? I'm wondering if you used a half round file for the choil and might want to use a rattail next time? I bet you have learned a lot about working antler, got any tips???

Keep it up. Thanks for sharing, Phil

taking a second look the guard and handle transition is a little abrupt on the next one try to blend the handle material into the guard just a little bit but i like to choke up on a handle alot and that would make it a little more comfortable

your on the right track. the things i would have done different have already been mentioned. definitly something to be proud of for just your first few knives.

thanks guys , the only way for someone to get it right is to hear from person's that know more then you and then react.
