How and where do you keep your knives?

I don't have a large number of knives - I guess about 20 if I add them all up - they're all traditional, production slippies - all users, no safe queens. I've just sort of accumulated them over the past year, and when not in my pocket, they reside, all lined up, on the table next to my recliner. Easy to grab, look at, fondle ..... whenever.

But ..... they're starting to take up too much "real estate" on the table - gotta still have room for a coffee cup or glass of iced tea, dish of ice cream, magazines, etc. ;) So, I'm looking for a "solution". I want to keep the knives close, because I like to handle them when sitting here with my laptop or watching TV. I'm not looking for a fancy wood & glass display case type of thing, but also don't think I want to just throw them in a box or tupperware container either.

Maybe some type of roll-up pouch with individual slots for the knives - with clear "plastic" on the inside, so I can see the knives without pulling them out of their individual holders??? Do they make such a thing? Any other suggestions? How/where do you keep your knives? Thanks for any and all ideas!

spyderpac holds about 30+ knives, 2 trappers fit in one slot so you can easily have 50/60 in there

Kieth..
I like some of your topics!!

I find this the most difficult thing with collecting knives...
I dont leave my knives out..simply for the fact that the picture of a burgler sitting down admiring "his" new knives would drive me nuts..as I would want to do things that we shouldnt discuss here in this thread to that boy!!

What I do...( and I know you guys are going to shake your heads-as it is a hassle but I just dont realy have a choice) ...

I always Mineral oil my knives, and because I live in a old bungalow..it could be bad for my knives as insulation isnt the best in these old homes...so I wrap each knife after its oiled in what you would call cooking paper ( its slightly greasy-they use it for biscuit trays etc...) I find this great as it wont let oil through at all, I then cut rags up, and wrap the paper contained knife in the rag, I find this perfect storage in my enviroment.

The knives are stashed in a place that only few humans dare to go

I rotate my knives so I have a bundle out at a time..and every few nights or so I open that bundle-inspect them...(the paper keeps them as freshly oiled as the day they were put in) sit down and admire them-while my family sit there and think I am simple.( let him play..he's not bothering anyone lol ), and then pull one out to carry for a few days...and so it goes.

So there you go-how is that for just bloody frustrating!!...but if you could imagine a thief coming into your house...and presto!!...heres a knife collection....as a young man-that burgler would be attracted to nice knives like a magnet-he then would fill his sack, keep some and then have something that would sell like hot cakes to his buddies....and THAT is something I just couldnt face...

I keep my antique carbon steel slipjoints in knife rolls for maximum protection from UV, moisture and temperature changes, but I use half a dozen of these stackable oak display cases for my modern slippies. They provide decent air circulation and the velveteen-covered foam acts as a desiccant of sorts, so spots and discoloration, etc. have never been a problem. Best of all, I can easily see my knives, so it's no trouble to quickly choose one for my pocket without digging through a bunch of individual boxes and zipper cases.

I keep all my knives right out in the open, where anybody could just grab 'em, at 1060 West Addison, Chicago, Illinois, 60613.

I have 7 fixed blades, 2 neck knives, and 5 folders..(all users) on top of my dresser in my bedroom.
Keep 1 fixed blade, 2 slipjoints, 1 SAK, and a framelock with my wallet/keys on entertainment center.
A few old beat up users in the kitchen drawers.
A Case desk knife right beside my chair here.

The rest of my knives I keep upstairs in a safe, and a wood cabinet.

Hmmm ..... me thinks there's some kind of joke going on here. Ole' joe-bob has Dallas, Texas listed as his location, and yet freely gives us a Chicago address. And I know the man has a boat load of gorgeous GEC's in his stable .....

HA!!! I just googled "1060 West Addison". Good one, joe-bob!!! ;) :D

I just throw all of mine loose into a plastic 5 gallon bucket -- the lids seal real good on those things, and they make a good stool.... What?

Actually, I oil 'em up and wipe 'em down, usually with Militec-1, then use some nice soft paper towels (Viva is good) and roll tightly, fold in the corners, then roll some more, and then store groups of about 10 or 12 in good quality (thick) gallon ziplock-type freezer bags (with a label, which may or may not actually match the contents) that I squeeze all the air out of -- when I'm done, it's a pseudo-vacuum seal. These get folded and stored into various boxes and containers in various locations about the house. I don't display any of them, never had any need or desire to do so. My EDCs are loose in an anonymous drawer in a cabinet where I keep everything else I tend to stuff into my pockets for the day -- there's plenty of other stuff in this drawer so that none of them ever bump into each other.

Because of a request from my wife, I put them all in the gun safe. I will take a pic for you and post, but someone has to say, "Show me the pic CJ!" or no burrito!

A lot of mine are in a wooden chest from habor freight. Some in a 2 drawer plastic filling cabinet. Some in a display case and some in the safe. Pretty much everywhere. Mom in law got this for me, she's a doll.

I use knife rolls purchased from Smokey Mountain. I believe they are a United Cutlery item. Each roll secures 60 small folders. I am on my second roll.

This question comes up every now and again on the forums...

...here's a subsequent image of one of the last (former) members to ask that question...(could it be his intentions were less than honorable?)

Ya just never know...;)

Plano 3700 fishing tackle boxes the bottoms lined with Sears tool box foam liners. Never had a knife rust, spot, whatever using this method. Works well and I can see the knives through the clear lid.
